Township erupted for 11 runs in the fifth, turning a close matchup into a 15-3 runaway win over Dingman Delaware in the Little League Junior Baseball Section 5 playoffs Tuesday at the Pittston Area Primary Center.
Township plays Hazle Twp./Freeland at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Avoca Flats field.
The Township offense struck first in the second inning when Tommy Belles, Emil Diaz and Joey Racavitch drew walks before Jordan Tonte delivered a single to center field, driving in runs and giving Pittston an early advantage.
In the fifth, Michael Larkin drew two walks and scored twice, Jonah Rowlands added an RBI single, Belles contributed another RBI single, Diaz worked another walk and scored and Tonte capped the rally with a clutch single that drove in three runs.
On the mound, Racavitch allowed just three hits and three runs — none earned — over five innings.
Tonte led the Township offense, finishing 2-for-2 with three RBI. Rowlands also collected two hits. Larkin drew three of Township’s 15 walks.
Dingman Delaware was led offensively by Jayce Monroe, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
