Scranton Prep junior Thor Balavage is the first Cavaliers wrestler to win a match at the state tournament.

HERSHEY — Scranton Prep junior Thor Balavage became the first Cavaliers wrestler to win a match in the PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) Championships by pinning Seth Hitchens, of South Allegheny, in 45 seconds on March 6 during the first round of Class AA consolation matches in Hershey.

Balavage fell to Kittanning’s Jacob Robb by technical fall, 16-0, in his first-round match on March 5 and was pinned by Wyalusing’s Dylan Otis in 2:34 in the second round of consolations on March 6, ending his tournament.

Balavage finished the season with a 40-4 record.
