Last Tuesday was a huge day for Yankees farm teams as Double-A Trenton pitched a combined no-hitter against New Hampshire, and High-A Tampa walloped six homers in a 11-5 win over Dunedin.

Ronald Herrera, who got a start for the RailRiders last month, got the start for the Thunder in the no-hitter going the first eight innings to improve to 3-0 for Trenton this season. The 20-year-old walked just two batters in the outing while throwing 105 pitches and striking out five. Jonathan Holder closed out the no-hitter with a perfect ninth.

It marked the first no-hitter for the Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park, and the first no-hitter for the team since Tyler Clippard tossed a no-no at Harrisburg on Aug. 9, 2006. The only other no-hitter to be thrown at Trenton’s home field was a perfect game by Jeanmar Gomez for Akron against the Thunder on May 21, 2009.

Not only did the T-Yanks smash six longballs in the win, five of them came in a seven-run third inning. Billy Fleming and Miguel Andujar went back-to-back in the third, while Zack Zehner, Michael O’Neil and Abiatal Avelino also went deep in the frame. Jorge Mateo homered in the eighth for Tampa.

A suite for 16

The RailRiders are participating in the UMPS CARE Charities 8th Annual Online Auction, which opened last month at www.mlb.com/UmpsCare and runs through Monday at 10 p.m.

As part of the initiative, which helps children in cases such as bringing Build-A-Bears to childrens’ hospitals, inviting kids waiting for adoption to the ballpark, there are hundreds of items up for auction from Major League and Minor League baseball teams. The RailRiders have put up for auction, a suite for 16.

In case you missed it

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre didn’t exactly have a stellar week last week, but did break a season-high five-game losing streak after being swept by Syracuse in three or more games for the first time since becoming a Yankees affiliate in 2007.

The RailRiders rebounded to take two of three from Lehigh Valley at PNC Field as the race atop the International League North Division now has all six teams within 2.5 games from top to bottom.

Looking ahead

There’s no home games until Saturday, but the RailRiders have a tough week ahead facing Buffalo and the IronPigs after closing out a four-game set with Rochester this afternoon.

Despite SWB taking two out of three from the IronPigs last week, all three games were close. The teams meet again on Thursday at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown for two games before returning to PNC Field to square off the next two days.

The Bisons gave the RailRiders much trouble when they met last month at PNC Field with Buffalo winning three of the four games and outscoring SWB 23-12 in the four-game set.

Don’t miss this

Even though Scranton/Wilkes-barre is on the road for most of the week, when they return on Saturday, there’s a giveaway promotion that you won’t want to miss when the first 1,000 children will receive a bank of team mascot Champ upon entering the ballpark.

If you’re jonesing to see your team play this week, head down to Allentown on Friday where the IronPigs will host the RailRiders and celebrate the always popular Star Wars Night followed by a fireworks show after the game.
