It takes a lot of fuel to power through a 60-minute hockey game. Constant skating alone burns countless calories, and players have become increasingly attuned to what they eat as a major part of their daily training regiment. Pregame meal: “Chicken and pasta, maybe a salad too. It’s what I’ve always done so I stuck with it. It seems like it’s working.”

Preferred meal on non-game days: “Not really anything in particular. After morning skate we get a variety of meals which changes it up every day.”

Foods to avoid: “Fast food. That’s in general. I avoid burgers before a game.”

Cheat meal: “If we have a couple days off I’ll get a burger or something. Other than that, you’re sticking to the diet of what you have to do to be ready every day.”

Favorite meal from back home: “Not really one thing. I have a few places I like to go back to to eat, so there’s not really one thing I prefer.”
