Hockey is a small world and players often cross paths with each other at some point. But what about current Penguins crossing paths with former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton players?

It’s happened at virtually level, and each week we’ll highlight six degrees of separation that connects current Penguins to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton players of the past.

Jake Guentzel — Jayson Megna

While Guentzel was never a teammate of Megna’s, he does have a link to the former Penguin through his playing days at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Megna and his younger brother, Jaycob, both played at Nebraska-Omaha but the elder Megna departed for the pros two years before Guentzel arrived.

Still, during the 2013-14 season, Guentzel was teammates with Jaycob Megna at Nebraska-Omaha, giving him his closest link to a former Penguins player. That season, Guentzel finished tied for second on the team with 34 points. Current Penguin Josh Archibald was first with 43 points.

Jaycob Megna was a defenseman and posted 10 assists while playing on a team with Guentzel. The following season Jaycob turned pro while Guentzel spent two more years at Nebraska-Omaha before joining the Penguins.
