2017 Times Leader Boys Cross Country All-Stars

Mitchell Rome

Dallas, junior

Rome earned a state medal by producing the Wyoming Valley Conference’s top performance at the state meet, placing 12th in Class 2A in 16:37. He is a first-team, all-star for the third straight season after contributing to sweeps of conference, district and state titles his first two seasons. Finished third in District 2 and sixth in conference meet. After contributing to another set of titles there, as well as an unbeaten regular season, was lead runner on team’s fourth-place state finish.

Mitchell Martin

Berwick, senior

Martin moves up after being a second-team selection last season. He was beaten just once in Wyoming Valley Conference season, winning five cluster meets and finishing second to Runner of the Year Jack Zardecki from Dallas. He was second to Zardecki again at the conference and District 2 meets, earning a third straight trip to the state meet where he finished in the top third of the Class 2A field in 74th. After making it to Hershey as part of a seventh-place state team as a sophomore, he qualified individually the past two seasons.

Franklin Cunningham

Hazleton Area, senior

Cunningham closed out his high school career with a fourth straight appearance at the state meet in Hershey, his third as an individual qualifier after making it once as part of Hazleton Area’s District 2-4 Subregional championship team in Class 3A. He placed fourth in the Wyoming Valley Conference Meet and fifth in District 2-4.

Josh Wyandt

Dallas, senior

Wyandt is a repeat first-team choice. One of the regular contributors to Dallas’ continued dominance in recent seasons, he finished third in the conference meet, sixth in District 2 Class 2A and 47th in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships where he was the fourth finisher for the state’s fourth-place team.

Clay Kimsal

Crestwood, senior

Kimsal was the top non-Dallas finisher from the Wyoming Valley Conference in the state meet, placing 37th in Class 2A with a finish of 17:37 in Hershey. He finished fifth in the conference meet and fourth in the district to lead three Comets who qualified for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships as individuals.

Bryce Zapusek

Holy Redeemer, junior

Zapusek repeats as a first-team, all-star after leading the Royals to their second straight second-place finish in the Wyoming Valley Conference as well as District 2 Class 2A to qualify for the state meet as a team. He finished seventh in the conference meet and ninth in the district before placing in the top quarter of the state Class 2A field in 57th.
