Misericordia’s Jason Kenny and Wilkes coach Izzi Metz brought home top honors on Thursday when the Freedom Conference announced its award winners. Kenny was named the league’s player of the year while Metz was voted coach of the year.

Kenny averaged 20 points per game this season to help the Cougars to a 15-10 record. Metz led the Colonels to their first top seed in the conference tournament since the 2000-01 season with an 18-7 record.

Along with Kenny, King’s guard Connor Callejas and Wilkes guard Marcus Robinson were named first-team all-conference selections.

Wilkes’ Rob Pecorelli and Misericordia’s Tre Fields and Tony Harding were selected to the second team while Wilkes’ Mark Mullins was an honorable mention pick.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Alvernia 3, Wilkes 0

Wilkes was swept 25-17, 25-20, 26-16 by conference foe Alvernia.

Daniel Sales paced the Colonels with eight kills and a team-high 11 assists.

Wilkes returns to action today with a non-conferene matchup with York College at 7 p.m. The Colonels have a 4-12 overall record and a 1-4 mark in league play.

Arcadia 3, Misericordia 1

The Cougars fell three sets (29-31, 23-25, 15-25) to one (27-25) by MAC Conference opponent Arcadia Thursday night.

Ryan Miller led Misericordia with 19 kills. Bailey Brugler led the team with 33 assists.

Misericordia returns to the court next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with Wilson College.

The Cougars have an 8-10 overall record and a 1-5 mark in league play.
