Local roundup: No-hitter for Redeemer softball; Pittston Area wins big

Morgan Bienkowski threw a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts as Holy Redeemer edged Meyers 2-0 Tuesday in Wyoming Valley Conference softball.

Bienkowski also accounted for the game’s only runs with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Sam Rajza also scored.

Meyers Abbi Satoff pitched a strong game, limiting the Royals to three hits.

Tunkhannock 11, Crestwood 2

Hailey Farr tripled and knocked in two runs for Tunkhannock. Kendra Schultz and Ella Larioni added a pair of hits and RBI.

Sarah Macko was 3-for-4 for Crestwood.

Northwest 15, MMI Prep 2 (5 inn.)

Nicole Cragle had four RBI to pace Northwest past MMI Prep.

Payge Wufsus added two RBI for the Rangers. Cragle was the winning pitcher, fanning 12.

Pittston Area 17, Wyo. Valley West 0 (3 inn.)

The Patriots pounded out 21 hits in ending the game early due to the 15-run rule.

Morgan Mesaris had four RBI and Alexa McHugh added three more.

BASEBALL

Pittston Area 13, Wyoming Valley West 11

Riley Brody homered, doubles and knocked in three runs as the Patriots won a slugfest.

Joe Stella was also big for Pittston Area, going 3-for-4 with five RBI.

Austin Sienkiewicz had a homer and four RBI for Valley West. Stephen Banas and Jake Packer also homered.

Berwick 7, Nanticoke 6

Jared Marshman went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI at the plate and struck out five to pick up the win on the mound as the Bulldogs held off a late Nanticoke rally.

The Trojans put the tying run on third in the bottom of the seventh after Dylan Szychowski hit a two-out, two-run triple before Berwick ended it.

Tunkhannock 12, Wyoming Area 2 (6 inn.)

Nick Reposa was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI as Tunkhannock routed Wyoming Area.

Billy Dziak was 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI and Cage Gregory batted in two runs to aid the Tigers’ offense.

P.J. Angeli paced Wyoming Area with two of the Warriors’ four hits.

Crestwood 9, Hazleton Area 3

Justin Darden hit a three-run homer in the third inning and Wyatt Kindler had two RBI as Crestwood defeated Hazleton Area. Corey Chalk allowed two hits over six innings for the victory.

Christopher Heim knocked in two runs for Crestwood.
