Local roundup: Nanticoke softball wins; Weather interrupts games

Nanticoke Area answered Dallas’ four-run fifth inning with five runs in the bottom of the frame as the Trojanettes posted a 7-5 victory Thursday in Wyoming Valley Conference softball.

Jiliann Baron and Katie King had two RBI each for Nanticoke Area. Baron and Elizabeth Redenski each had a double.

Miranda Bohn had three hits for Nanticoke Area and was the winning pitcher, striking out four and allowing no earned runs.

Samantha Kern and Sydney Hornlein each had two RBI for Dallas.

BASEBALL

Crestwood 23, Pittston Area 8 (6 inn.)

Mike Palmiero and Justin Darden had four RBI each as Crestwood scored in all but one inning in its road win.

Johnny DeLucca and Joe Stella had two RBI apiece to lead Pittston Area.

Dallas 10, Nanticoke Area 1

Drew Patton pitched six innings, allowing three hits and striking out 13 to pick up the win for Dallas.

Beaudyn Lewis drove home a pair of runs for the Mountaineers.

Berwick 2, Tunkhannock 0

Jared Marshman’s two-run single in the first inning accounted for all the scoring in Berwick’s victory.

Alec Markle pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.

Two games suspended due to rain

Lake-Lehman at GAR was halted in the third inning with Lehman in front 4-0 due to rain. It hasn’t been rescheduled.

Holy Redeemer led MMI Prep 3-0 in the third before the game was stopped. The teams will finish it on May 14 at Redeemer before their regularly scheduled game.

BOYS TENNIS

Williamsport 5, Crestwood 0

Crestwood’s season came to an end with a loss at Williamsport in the District 2/4 Class 3A quarterfinals.

The Comets were swept in straight sets in all five competitions.

BOYS TRACK

Hanover Area 91, Nanticoke Area 55

James McCabe swept the hurdles competition to pace Hanover Area over rival Nanticoke Area.

GIRLS TRACK

Hanover Area 90, Nanticoke Area 60

Tanisha Atherton won the javelin and discus for Hanover Area. Abby Korba posted wins in the 200 and triple jump.

Veronica Penko won the 100 and 300 hurdles for Nanticoke Area. Amiah Lukowski was first in the 100 and long jump.

BOYS LACROSSE

Delaware Valley 17, Wyoming Area 12

Josh Balcarcel scored four goals to pace DelVal.

Jake Urban had six goals for Wyoming Area.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Delaware Valley 13, Coughlin 3

Skylar Padgett paced DelVal with four goals.

Jolene Ulichney scored twice for Coughlin.

Scranton Prep 5, Abington Heights 3

Elisa Kopicki and Kerry McGrath had two goals each for Prep.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Hanover Area 3, Coughlin 1

The Hawkeyes won by scores of 25-14, 29-31, 25-12, 25-22.

Trek Brodginski (3 kills, 3 blocks, 4 points), Korey Turner (6 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs, 6 points) and Joe Scudder (6 assists, 5 digs, 6 points) led the victory.

Holy Redeemer 3, Tunkhannock 0

Ben Rachilla had 26 kills and Jared Piontkowski added 12 more as Redeemer won 25-18, 25-22, 25-11.

Evan Turner had 10 kills for Tunkhannock.
