Drew Patton drove in the game’s only run and Nick Kocher fanned nine over six innings as Dallas edged Berwick 1-0 Wednesday to clinch the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 baseball title for a second consecutive season.

The Mountaineers (11-1) scored the only run in the fourth. Kocher singled and Lucas McGeehan ran for him. McGeehan stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Patton’s single.

Sawyer Kemp pitched well in defeat for Berwick (6-5), striking out six and surrendering just four hit.

Hazleton Area 8, Valley West 6

Alex Amentler unloaded a solo home run to lead off a four-run sixth inning that carried the Cougars over Wyoming Valley West and knocked the Spartans from first place in the WVC Division 1.

Amentler’s shot broke a 4-4 tie and lifted Hazleton Area (5-4) into second place, just behind Crestwood (7-4) in the Division 1 standings. Valley West fell from first to third place at 7-5.

Chris Heim went 3-for-3 and drove home three runs in the victory, Ryan Pietrzyk had three hits and scored twice and both had a double among their hits. Gabe Colyer finished with two RBI and Amentler also scored twice for the Cougars.

Stephen Banas had two doubles and two RBI for Valley West.

Crestwood 6, Coughlin 1

Brandon Brozena was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Stew Caladie added two hits and an RBI as the Comets defeated Coughlin.

Eric Witner and Colby Jones combined on the mound to limit Coughlin to three hits.

Nanticoke Area 8, Wyoming Area 1

Trahjan Krupinski’s two-run homer highlighted a seven-run fourth inning as Nanticoke Area pulled away for a victory.

Derek Cease, Luke Myers and Kris Rynkiewicz also all had two RBI for Nanticoke Area.

Matt Wright had two of Wyoming Area’s five hits.

Holy Redeemer 13, Northwest 3

David Wickiser drove home four runs and Matt Hayden homered as the Royals rolled to their third straight victory to move to 6-5 on the season.

Wickiser had a double among his two hits and Hayden finished with two runs scored and two RBI for the Royals.

Lake-Lehman 7, GAR 6

C.J. Cercone scored three runs and Jacob Wesley scored twice as the Black Knights held off the Grenadiers.

Ian Evans picked up the save by pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Simon Peter tripled, two singles and two RBI for GAR.

SOFTBALL

Nanticoke Area 6, Crestwood 1

Miranda Bohn was 4-for-4 with two doubles and pitched a complete game to pace the Trojanettes over Crestwood.

Katie King added a pair of doubles for Nanticoke Area.

Sydney Sobolewski had a double and single for Crestwood.

Berwick 5, Tunkhannock 4

Berwick scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to knock off Division 2 leader Tunkhannock.

Kylie Levan led the offense with a triple, double and two RBI. Emily Novicki picked up the win in relief.

Gina Walsh had three RBI for Tunkhannock.
