Former Hazleton Area student Jhordany Mezquita was assigned to Low-A Williamsport on Wednesday. He has not played in a game yet.

The Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect made nine starts last season in the Gulf Coast League and registered a 3-0 record and 0.72 ERA.

Matt Wotherspoon

The Crestwood grad pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief on Wednesday. The Triple-A Norfolk reliever only allowed two hits and struck out three batters.

Wotherspoon now owns a 2-4 record and 4.94 ERA on the season.

Mike Papi

The Tunkhannock grad saw his six-game hitting streak end of Friday. The Triple-A Columbus outfielder’s highlight of the week came on Thursday when he homered in an 8-2 victory over Louisville.

It was Papi’s fourth home run of the season.

Ray Black

The Coughlin alum pitched twice this week for Triple-A Sacramento.

Both outings were scoreless, with Black pitching an inning in each. He gave up just two hits combined while striking out three.

Black now has a 1-0 record and 4.97 ERA after 13 games in Triple-A.

Sal Biasi

The Hazleton Area grad bounced back, pitching three scoreless innings in relief for Single-A Lexington on Tuesday. He gave up two hits and struck out a batter.

In his first season as a full-time reliever, Biasi sports a 2-2 record and 5.55 ERA.

Notable

Hazleton Area grad Tony Hernandez is still in extended spring training with the New York Yankees. Hazleton Area alum Joey Baran has yet to been assigned to a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate after being drafted earlier this month.
