Local roundup: Spaciano perfect for Back Mountain Little League softball

Victoria Spaciano fired a three-inning perfect game Wednesday and Back Mountain beat West Pittston, 15-0 to move to 3-0 in round robin play in a District 31 Major softball game.

Spaciano struck out eight of the nine batters West Pittston sent to the plate, and fielded the game’s other out on a grounder back to the pitcher.

At the plate, Spaciano went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Abby Beyer finished with two hits and two RBI in the victory, Allison Vitanovec and Chelcie Strobel both drove home two runs and Ava Hudak added two hits.

Back Mountain has one game remaining in the district’s round-robin format against Greater Wyoming Area, also 3-0, at 8 p.m. Sunday in what could be a preview of Wednesday’s District 31 championship game.

GWA 11, Northwest 1

Jillian Graham threw a no-hitter and struck out six batters as Greater Wyoming Area improved to 3-0 by winning in four innings.

Kaylo Leo led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Morgan Janeski finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run and Morgan Slusser had two singles, scored twice and drove home a run.

Leo singled home a run in the first inning, then Greater Wyoming Area grabbed complete control with a six-run third inning. Ellie Parra, Slusser, Ella Rau, Janeski and Leo all drove home runs in the frame.

Greater Wyoming Area will face Back Mountain at 8 p.m. Sunday at Back Mountain in a battle of 3-0 teams to complete round robin play for each team in District 31 before the top two teams square off for the district title Wednesday.


Tunkhannock 4, Nanticoke 2

Tyler Faux went 3-for-4, scored twice and drove home a run and Tunkhannock built an early three-run lead and hung on for the victory.

Matt Goodwin also went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Tunkhannock. Dylan Mislevy had two hits, an RBI and scored a run in the victory, Billy Dziak had two hits and an RBI and Paul Demarco doubled among his two hits and scored a run.

Connor Hulslander limited Nanticoke to four hits and two runs in the complete-game victory.

Jaired Balliet had a hit and drove home a run for Nanticoke.
