Two no-hitters by Back Mountain National pitchers highlighted play in District 31 Little League Baseball on Thursday.

Chris Sholtis pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven, as Back Mountain National defeated West Pittston 10-0 in four innings in the 9-11 tournament.

Kyle Chesman led the offense with three hits, three runs and three RBI. Bryce Casey and Carter Brunn each had a single and RBI.

In the major division, Mike Cumbo and Aiden Burkhardt combined for a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Back Mountain National shut out Kingston/Forty Fort 8-0.

Cumbo also added a homer. Sam Barrouk homered and singled. Gavin Adamski had two hits while Zack Paczewski, Brad Krugler and Mike Timinski each had a single.

DISTRICT 16 9-11 BASEBALL Plains 11, Duryea/Pittston 1 (5 inn.)

Nick Mazzarella pitched a complete game for Plains, striking out six and surrendering two hits. He also had three RBI.

Logan Sincavage was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI for Plains. Brandon DelBalso scored three times.

Josh Lentkowski and Jimmy Noone each had a single for Duryea/Pittston, while T.J. Johnson scored his team’s only run.

Township Baseball 15, South Wilkes-Barre 2 (4 inn.)

Brycen Martin had three hits to pace Township Baseball. Winning pitcher Drew Cisney and Jake Aftewicz each doubles, while Christopher Scavo added two singles.

DISTRICT 16 MAJOR BASEBALL Hanover 11, Nanticoke 1 (5 inn.)

Nate Tomczak doubled and knocked in two runs for Hanover. Cole Whitman also doubled, while Jacob Vigorito was the winning pitcher.

Payton Kepp doubled and Branden Egemski singled for Nanticoke.

Pittston City/Duryea 6, Avoca/Dupont 0

Mickey O’Malley homered and had three RBI for Pittston City/Duryea. Chase Montigney added two hits, while Sildio Giardini was the winning pitcher.

Tyler White had a single for Avoca/Dupont.

South Wilkes-Barre 14, Township Baseball 10

Cael Ropietski was 4-for-5 with a double and closed out the game with three innings of relief as South Wilkes-Barre prevailed.

Jake Ohrin was 3-for-5 and Ken Hagenbaugh added a triple and double for SWB.

Dean Horensky was 4-for-5 and Drew Delucca had two hits for Township.

Plains 7, Mountain Top 0

Jake Mihalchik struck out 10 and allowed one hit over 5.1 innings for Plains. He was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Parker Mosley and Jake Senape were 2-for-3 each for Plains.

Derek Johnson had Mountain Top’s only hit. He also reached base with a walk.

DISTRICT 31 MAJOR BASEBALL Swoyersville 14, Harveys Lake 4 (4 inn.)

Lucas Zdanciewicz homered, Cole Hospodar tripled and Dominic Cavuto doubled twice to lead the Swoyersville offense.

Noah Kern, Joe Lipinski and Johnny Roberts all singled for Swoyersville.

Gavin Wallace doubled for Harveys Lake, while Jake Naugle and Fionn Ellis each added a single.

West Side 16, Back Mtn. American 4 (6 inn.)

Scott Davis hit a grand slam and added another homer in West Side’s victory. He was also the winning pitcher, striking out eight in 4.1 innings.

Paul Rossmell had a homer as part of a four-hit game for West Side.

Lucas Tirpak and Tucker Chesman had two hits each for American. Seth Berry scored twice.

DISTRICT 16 8-10 SOFTBALL Pittston Area 14, Plains 9

Winning pitcher Lily Hintze fanned seven and had a hit for Pittston Area.

Grace Callahan paced the offense with three hits. Nora Callahan and Samantha Herbert added two each. Also adding hits for Pittston Area were Kelcie Podwika, Karinne Podwika, Juliana Cocco and Jillian Haas.

Juliana Menendez and Abigail Major each had two hits for Plains.

DISTRICT 31 8-10 SOFTBALL Back Mountain 17, Northwest 0 (3 inn.)

Nina Barrouk pitched an abbreviated perfect game, striking out all nine batters she faced in Back Mountain’s victory.

Hannah Chipego was 4-for-4. Barrouk and Kirsten Finarelli had three hits each.

Greater Wyo. Area 3, Harveys Lake 1

Winning pitcher Arianna Gaylord struck out 15 and added a pair of doubles at the plate for GWA.

Renee Haddock had two singles and a double for GWA. Madison Spittel had two singles and Addison Gaylord had a hit.

Hailey Wallace and Alexis Shotwell singled for Harveys Lake. Wallace and Gracie Bucknavage combined for a strong pitching performance.
