Maura Mihalka delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning as PA used a three-run rally to come back for a 3-2 victory over Tripp Park in a Section 5 Major softball game Tuesday.

The victory sent PA to the Section 5 championship game Friday against either Back Mountain or Tripp Park, who will play in an elimination game Thursday.

Gianna Adams, Cassie Hintze and Avan Callahan all went 2-for-3 for PA and Callahan had a double among her two hits.

Adams struck out 12 batters and limited Tripp Park to seven hits over six innings to pick up the win.

Mia Butka recorded 10 strikeouts for Tripp Park and went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Bella Summa went 2-for-3 in the loss.

SECTION 5

MAJOR SOFTBALL

Back Mountain 4,

Old Forge 0

Victoria Spaciano pitched a three-hit shutout and Back Mountain edged to a sectional victory.

Spaciano struck out seven batters and contributed two hits with an RBI at the plate.

Abby Byer and Autumn Palka both had a hit and an RBI in the win.

JUNIOR SOFTBALL

Harveys Lake 3,

Mountain Top 2

Krista Scoblick doubled and teamed with Amber Kocher in the circle to hold Mountain Top to a pair of runs in Harvey’s Lake’s victory.

Hailey Kline and Hannah Kline both added a double in the victory.

Jessica Kopetho struck out eight for Mountain Top and Victoria Butler had a double in the loss.

DISTRICT 31

8-9-10 BASEBALL

Greater Wyoming Area 18,

Northwest 1

Connor Krokoski and Luke Kopetchne both had inside-the-park home runs as Greater Wyoming Area rolled to victory.

Jacob Schneider went 4-for-4 with a double in the victory and Alex Zacula went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Krokoski went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Kopetchne finished with two hits.

Schneider worked four innings and struck out eight to earn the win on the mound.

Shane Hempky and Brayden Lynn both singled for Northwest’s only hits.

Kingston/Forty Fort 11,

Harveys Lake 1

Connor Zera pitched a one-hitter and Kingston/Forty Fort stormed to a four-inning victory.

Sam Shovlin, Divonte Rivers and Billy Bell each had two hits for Kingston/Forty Fort.

Ned Palka had the lone hit for Harveys Lake.

Back Mountain American 11,

West Side 7

Andrew Morris worked the final two innings and ripped a two-run single in the sixth, sealing Back Mountain American’s victory.

Morris relieved Bobby Gallagher, who earned the win while pitching the first four innings.

Brady Ecenrode delivered a two-run single in the third inning and Logan Spootis was strong defensively at second base for Back Mountain.

West Side pitcher Gunner Giza struck out the first six batters of the game.

DISTRICT 16

8-9-10 BASEBALL

Mountain Top 19,

South Wilkes-Barre 1

Connor Wagaman went 2-for-2 with two doubles and combined with Jaden Shedlock to hold South Wilkes-Barre without a hit in Mountain Top’s victory.

Zach Stavish went 3-for-3 with a double in Mountain Top’s high-powered offense, Shedlock went 2-for-2 with a double and Brady Johnson had two hits.

Rajon Watson drew two walks and scored South Wilkes-Barre’s lone run.

Plains 14, Avoca/Dupont 4

Alex Hufford, Jake Howe and Tait Stahovic all went 3-for-3 at the plate in Plains’ five-inning victory. Stahovic drove in four runs and Howe added a triple and pitched four innings of one-hit ball.

Brady Gerry went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the win.

David Perks singled for Avoca/Dupont.

Township Baseball 18,

Bear Creek/North Wilkes-Barre 3

Paul Ferentino and Dominic Marranca combined to hold Bear Creek/North Wilkes-Barre without a hit in Township’s three-inning win.

Beau Widdick and Brodie Martin each had two hits in the victory.

9-10-11 BASEBALL

South Wilkes-Barre 11,

Nanticoke 5

Xavier Brown drove home three runs and Koleton Davies scored twice and added two RBI to lead South Wilkes-Barre in a game played Monday.

Logan Sekol pitched into the fifth inning and picked up the victory while striking out 10 batters.

Brown finished with a triple and a single, while Davies had two singles. Robbie Miller added a triple in South Wilkes-Barre’s offensive attack.

Eugene Gyle had a double and a single for Nanticoke, while RJ Brogan added a double.

Mountain Top 8,

Plains 6

Dylan Weikel hd three hits and drove home three runs as Mountain Top outlasted Plains in a game delayed by lightning Monday.

Dylan Domzalski had two hits and two RBI in the victory and Jacob Feisel had a hit and two RBI.

Caden Demellier ripped a homer and a single for Plains.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL

Wilkes-Barre/Wilkes-Barre Twp. 6

Greater Pittston 5

Ryan Gilgallon had three singles and drove home two runs to spark Wilkes-Barre/Wilkes-Barre’s Twp.’s victory.

Jacob Nargoski went 2-for-3, scored twice and added two RBI in the victory. Aaron Farrell held Pittston Area to one run over the final five innings to pick up the pitching victory.

Chase Yochem had two hits, including a triple, and scored a run for Greater Pittston.

Swoyersville 5,

Back Mountain 4

Pat Adamski had and RBI triple and scored a run as Swoyersville edged Back Mountain.

Tyler O’Kane also drove home one run and scored another for Swoyersville, which followed Monday’s 9-6 win over Nanticoke with its second win in as many days.

Jacob Packer tripled, Dom Bayo had a double and Richard Sott rapped out two hits in the victory.

Sam Sweitzer had two hits for Back Mountain.
