Winning pitcher Carter Brunn and reliever Sam Finarelli combined on a two-hitter as Back Mountain National defeated Dunmore 7-0 Monday to win the Section 5 9-11 Baseball title and a berth in the state tournament.

BMN will open state play at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bradford Regional Little League against the Section 2 champion.

Zach Williams led the BMN hitters, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Kyle Chesman had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Chris Sholtis added a pair of singles and Nick Pisenschi had a single.

Brunn and Finarelli combined for one strikeout, but stellar defense led to 17 putouts.

Corey Domiano and Kyle Cortazar had hits for Dunmore.

SECTION 5 8-10 BASEBALL

Mountain Top 13, Abington American 1

Winning pitcher Zac Stavish was also strong at the plate, going 3-for-3 as Mountain Top moved to the winners bracket finals.

Jaden Shedlock was 4-for-4 for Mountain Top. Brady Johnson was 3-for-3, while Connor Wagman was 2-for-4 and added strong defense at shortstop.

Reese Dalewski was 3-for-3 for Abington American and scored his team’s only run.

Back Mountain National 15, Green Ridge 4 (4 inn.)

Winning pitcher Will Jenkins threw three solid innings as Back Mountain National advanced to the winners bracket finals.

Dominick Zangardi tripled, doubled and singled for BMN. Jenkins and Brady Youngblood each had a double and single. Owen Stretanski added a pair of singles.

Also getting hits for BMN were Danny Dudrick, Colton Smith, Gracen Dieffenbacher, Peyton Vanvalkenberg and Alex Seymour. Andrew Chapple scored two runs.
