Jaden Shedlock tripled, drove home three runs and picked up the pitching victory as Mountain Top won the Section 5 Little League 8-10 baseball championship on Friday, beating Abington American 5-4.

The win sends Mountain Top to the state tournament against the Section 2 champion at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Indiana, Pa.

Zach Stavish and Chase Galella both went 2-for-3 for Mountain Top and Jack Rodgers had a single and drove home a run.

Evan Gonzalez had two hits and scored two runs for Abington American.

JUNIOR BASEBALL

Pittston Area 15, Back Mountain 4

Nicholas Ceraraso went the distance for the win and struck out four as Pittston Area prevailed in the elimination bracket final in five innings.

Ryan Turant (hit, run, two RBI), Brayden Powers (hit, three runs) and Aidan Flaim (two hits, two runs) led the effort at the plate.

For Back Mountain, Jacob Koons finished with a hit and a run scored while Jared Adamski had two hits and scored once.

Pittston Area advances to Saturday’s championship round, needing to beat Abington twice to win the tournament. The first game will be played at 11 a.m. at Hilldale Park in Plains Township. If Pittston Area wins, the two teams will play a decisive second game afterward at 1 p.m.
