Hazleton Area graduate Sal Biasi was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday in a swap of minor league pitchers.
The Royals received Jon Perrin in return for Biasi, who joined the Royals organization as an 11th-round draft pick in 2017.
Biasi, who also pitched at Penn State, appeared in 27 games this season for Class-A Lexington. He has a 3-3 record and a 5.06 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 42.2 inning pitched, all in relief. The 6-foot, 190-pound righty fared much better in his first season in 2017 when he played for two Kansas City rookie league affiliates. He compiled a 4-2 record with a 2.41 and 54 strikeouts in 54 innings as he started eight of the 13 games he played.
Perrin is a 6-5, 220-pound righty with a 2-2 record and 3.80 ERA in 28 games this season at the Double-A and Triple-A levels. In four minor league seasons, he has a 13-20 record and 3.19 ERA while starting 45 of 90 games.
Biasi was a two-sport standout at Hazleton Area and was the Times Leader Player of the Year for basketball in 2015.
