The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders scored five runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead, but Durham’s Austin Meadows spoiled the rally with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to give the Bulls a 9-8 victory Saturday night.

Meadows homer came off Cale Coshow and also scored Micah Johnson, who doubled with one out. It was Durham’s second consecutive walk-off victory against the RailRiders.

The RailRiders (60-56) trailed 8-4 entering the ninth inning and started their five-run rally with two out and L.J. Mazzilli on first.

A single by Francisco Diaz sent Mazzilli, who had reached on a fielder’s choice, to second. Mark Payton then walked to load the bases. Abiatal Avelino followed with a two-run single and Ryan McBroom then hit a three-run homer to center field to give SWB a 9-8 lead.

SWB starter Chance Adams labored through 3.1 innings. He allowed eight hits, seven earned runs and walked four.

Durham took a 4-1 lead in the third on two home runs and a run-scoring double against Adams. Meadows hit a two-run home run to right for a 2-1 Bulls lead. With two outs, Former RailRider Rob Refsnyder hit solo home run. Jason Coats’ two-base hit drove in Nick Cuiffo for the three-run edge.

The Bulls added three runs against Adams in the fourth inning on four hits to build a 7-3 lead.

The RailRiders cut one run off the lead in the sixth when Mike Ford doubled and scored on a single by Giovanny Urshela. Durham got the run back in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI triple by Johnson.

Ford led the RailRiders with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs scored. Payton, McBroom and Diaz added two hits apiece for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, which dropped its second straight and is now 2-3 on their current six-game road trip.

The RailRiders and Bulls finish their season series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will start RHP Mike King (0-0, 1.29) while Durham has not yet announced a starting pitcher.
