The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders finally found a way to get a win in Buffalo.
With an offensive explosion, or two.
Mike Ford and drove home two runs with a single in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s three-run fifth inning and the RailRiders scored three more in the sixth to beat the Bisons, 7-3 and salvage the finale of a three-game series at Coca-Cola Field.
After falling behind by a run in the first inning, the RailRiders tied the game in the top of the fourth when Zack Zehner doubled home Ford with two outs.
Then the RailRiders erupted.
Wilkin Castillo scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning, then Ford stroked a single to bring home Ricky Surum and Ryan McBroom with a 4-1 lead.
That grew to 7-1 in the sixth, when Castillo singled home Zehner, scored on Devyn Bolasky’s single and Surum drove home Bolasky with another single.
That was plenty for Adonis Rosa, who improved to 2-0 for the RailRiders in his second Triple-A start of the season and fourth of his career.
Rosa surrendered an RBI single by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. that scored Dwight Smith Jr. in the first inning, and didn’t give up much more.
Rosa allowed just four hits over 6 1/3 innings and lowered his Triple-A ERA to 1.54.
Buffalo scored twice in the bottom of the 8th inning against reliever Brady Lail and brought the tying run to the plate with the bases loaded.
But Joe Harvey came out of the RailRiders bullpen and worked out of the jam. Harvey struck out three over 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his seventh save of the season.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will continue its seven-game road trip by opening a weekend series at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Unbeaten Michael King (2-0, 1.74 ERA) gets the start for the RailRiders, while struggling Tom Eshelman (2-12) starts for Lehigh Valley.
