Local roundup: Lehman, Wyoming Area boys soccer open with tie

Lake-Lehman and Wyoming Area played to a 1-1 overtime tie Wednesday in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 boys soccer opener for both teams.

Damien Bronsburg converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute for Wyoming Area. Lehman tied the score early in the second half when Justin Timonte scored off an assist from Andrew Battin.

Lehman had the best scoring chance in overtime, having a shot strike the base of the left post.

Wyoming Seminary 6, Holy Redeemer 0

Luke Johns had three goals and Edward Miller scored twice as Seminary prevailed.

Hanover Area 2, MMI Prep 1

Hunter Ravert and Shaun Gurnari scored first-half goals seven minutes apart for Hanover Area in its win over MMI Prep.

Josiah Pacchioli scored for MMI with two minutes remaining.


Wyoming Area 5, Lake-Lehman 4

Tierney Porfirio scored twice and Aleah Kranson finished with two assists as the Warriors held off the Black Knights.

Sarah McCormick added a goal and an assist in the first half as Wyoming Area built a 4-1 lead by intermission.

Madison Brdaric scored two goals and Emily Smith had a goal and an assist in the second half for Lehman, but Lauren Kelly made 26 saves to protect Wyoming Area’s victory.

Holy Redeemer 5, Wyoming Seminary 3

Annie Bagnall scored four goals for the Royals.


Wyoming Area 3, Hanover Area 0

The Warriors won by scores of 25-8, 25-15, 25-12.

Marissa Kovaleski had seven service points, four aces and 13 assists for Wyoming Area. Brandi Sorokin had five points, four aces and six kills. Selena Forlenza added six aces and two kills.

Hanover Area was led by Ana Pac (2 kills, 5 pts.), Jada Wilson (1 kill, 3 pts). and Emalee Woychio (1 kill, 3 pts.).

Delaware Valley 3, Hazleton Area 0

Delaware Valley swept in three close games — 25-18, 26-24, 25-22.

Pacing Hazleton Area were Maddison Plesh (7 kills, 12 pts., 6 aces) and Brooke Boretski (14 assists, 4 pts.).

Holy Redeemer 3, Wyoming Valley West 0

The Royals swept 25-8, 25-3, 25-10.

Liv Moore had 10 kills and 13 blocks for Redeemer. Korren Hicks added 15 points and 13 assists. Julia Andrejko had nine points and three kills. Samantha Carr added five kills.


Lehman posts two wins

The Black Knights defeated Wyoming Valley West 25-36 and Tunkhannock 20-43. Valley West defeated Tunkhannock 24-33.

Valley West’s Tavian McKenna took first in 18:30, while teammate Mike McCann was third at 19:40. Tunkhannock’s Peter Sayre was second at 18:30.

Lehman, though, took the next eight places starting with Neil Dougherty’s fourth-place finish.

Berwick tops Northwest, CMVT

Griff Keller was Berwick’s top finisher with a fourth place, but the Dawgs then took the next three spots to defeat Northwest 25-36 and Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech 16-46.

Northwest defeated Vo-Tech 24-31 Levi Vick was first, Caleb Cumberland second and Matt Pierontoni third for the Rangers.

Holy Redeemer 15, Hanover Area 46

The Royals took the top five spots in their victory over Hanover Area,


Lehman sweeps WVW, Tunkhannock

Lauryn Pembleton (25:04) placed first followed by teammates Tasha Milhalko and Morgan Patla as Lehman defeated Wyoming Valley West 27-30 and Tunkhannock 25-31. Valley West defeated Tunkhannock 19-36.

Autumn Gaylord led Valley West with a fourth-place showing. Madelyn Franko paced Tunkhannock by finishing fifth overall.

Holy Redeemer 19, Hanover Area 40

Redeemer took the top three spots in its win.

Berwick 26, Northwest 29

Berwick took places three through five, with Jaida Geiser leading the way, to edge Northwest

Northwest’s Abigail Zielecki was first followed by teammate Alivia Wright.


Dallas 156, Wyo. Valley West 190

Logan Paczewski went 1-under par with a 35, leading the Mountaineers to victory.

Brett Ostroski shot a 36 in the win, while Ethan Zawatski wound up with a 40.

Danny Polacheck’s 41 led the Spartans.

Tunkhannock 161, Nanticoke Area 228

Tunkhannock’s Tyler Faux took medalist honors with an even-par 37 at Shadowbrook. Nick Budner added a 37 for the Tigers.

Austin Norton carded a 46 to pace Nanticoke Area.



Ithaca 1, Wilkes 0

Wilkes could only muster two shots on goal in its loss to Ithaca. Wilkes keeper Courtney Stanley made five saves.

King’s 3, Ramapo 2

Danielle Putnam, Emily Harrington and Sophia Sacknievich scored for King’s as it rallied for the win.


Wilkes 3, Keystone 0

Zoe Stepanski, Lauren Baldwin and Lauren Shiplett scored for Wilkes.

Alvernia 2, Misericordia 1

Tori Carsley scored late in the first half for Misericordia.


Lebanon Valley 4, Misericordia 0

Ethan Aigeldinger led Misericordia with four shots, including two on goal.

Evan Murphy shot an 81 to pace King’s at the Wyoming Valley Country Club.
