The Coughlin golf team won the Battle of Wilkes-Barre, an exhibition match held between the three city schools at Hollenback Golf Course on Wednesday.

The teams used match-play format, so no individual scores were kept. The Crusaders defeated GAR 6-0 and Meyers 4-2. Meyers topped GAR 6-0.

GIRLS SOCCER

Dallas 1, Pittston Area 0

Megan MacNeely scored the game’s only goal midway through the second half as Dallas edged Pittston Area.

Ali Francis assisted the score. Keeper Sarah Krokos made 10 saves.

Pittston Area keeper Caroline Wesp stopped 20 shots.

Hanover Area 5, Meyers 0

Sharon Monahan scored twice and had an assist and Abby Korba added a goal and three assists as the Hawkeyes downed Meyers.

Sara Whitesell had a foal and an assist for Hanover Area. Rhiannon Danko rounded out the scoring with a late-game goal.

Berwick 2, Wyoming Valley West 1

Sarina DeFinnis snapped a 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal early in the second half as Berwick edged Wyoming Valley West.

Valley West struck first less than 10 minutes into the game when Kennadi Josefowicz scored off an assist by Chloe Chipego. Berwick tied the score a short time later as Katy Starr assisted Abbie Seely.

BOYS SOCCER

Dallas 6, Pittston Area 0

Zach Holthaus had two goals and an assist for Dallas. Vlad Gingo added a pair of assists.

Crestwood 5, Coughlin 0

Payton Glynn had two goals while Max Gariano added a goal and two assists in Crestwood’s victory.

Sean Murphy and Nick Ruggeri also scored for the Comets. Justin Sterlin and Hubert Herrera added an assist apiece.

Wyoming Valley West 2, Berwick 0

The Spartans held Berwick without a shot to post a shutout.

Nick Naugle scored midway through the first half for Valley West. Scott Nilon added the other goal unassisted in the second half.

GIRLS TENNIS

Hazleton Area 3, Coughlin 0

Lily Nowak, Alyssa Mazurek and Maddie Terracino won in straight sets in singles competition for Hazleton Area.

No doubles matches were played.

Pittston Area 3, Crestwood 1

Abby Connors won at No. 1 without allowing a point, Kaitlyn Connors won in a tiebreaker and Sarah Armitage went three set for a win as Pittston Area swept the singles competition.

Korina Cheng and Hannah Sobolewski won at No. 2 doubles for Crestwood. The other doubles match was tied 3-3 in the third set when it was called due to rain.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Holy Redeemer 3, Coughlin 0

Holy Redeemer made quick work of the Crusaders 25-3, 25-5, 25-4.

Skylar Osenkarski (11 kills, 8 points), Julia Andrejko (6 kills, 2 point), Maddie Lewis (11 points, ace) and Alyson Rymar (2 kills) paced the victory.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Redeemer wins three races

Holy Redeemer’s Bryce Zapusek led all runners while Lukas Volpetti finished third and Dominic Capici was fourth as the Royals defeated Wyoming Area 15-50, Dallas 21-34 and Wyoming Seminary 15-50.

Mitchell Rome was second overall to help Dallas to a 23-32 win over Hanover Area and a 15-50 win over Meyers.

Wyoming Area edged Hanover Area 26-29 and defeated Meyers 15-50. Michael Brantley paced the Warriors by finishing 10th over. Joey Rowley led Hanover Area runners with a fifth-place showing to help the Hawkeyes to top Seminary 18-37.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Redeemer sweeps cluster meet

Holy Redeemer defeated Dallas 26-29 and Wyoming Area and Wyoming Seminary by 15-50 scores.

Redeemer’s Cameron Marcinkowski finished first overall. Teammate Ann Capici was fourth.

Dallas picked up 15-50 victories over Hanover area and Meyers, with Megan Borton’s third-place finish pacing the team.

Hanover Area defeated Wyoming Area and Seminary by 15-50 scores. Alicia Orzechowski was 10th overall for Hanover Area.

King’s 3, Centenary 0

Sam Pipicelli, Ayrton Omoigui and August Axtman scored in the first half as the Monarchs won on the road.

Quentin Szeker-Cortes and Zach Wolcott added assists.

Wilkes 3, Scranton 1

The offensive combination of Kyle Bentz and Camry Huff connected on all three goals in Wilkes’ victory.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Misericordia 2, FDU-Florham 1

Tara Welliver led the Cougars with 15 kills and six blocks and Sarah Pool added 15 kills, 12 digs and three aces.

Eastern 3, King’s 1

Rachel Miller led King’s in kills with 17, Taylor Mueller had 14 digs and Wiatt Hoffmann recorded 33 assists.

Wilkes 3, Delaware Valley 0

Alex Ferrier had 10 kills and Karlye Huffman recorded 33 assists as Wilkes topped Delaware Valley.
