Local Roundup: Coughlin rolls past Nanticoke in boys soccer

Logan Davison had two goals and Nico Cipriano added a goal and two assists as Coughlin defeated Nanticoke Area 6-0 Wednesday in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 boys soccer.

Dante Vitali had a goal and an assist for Coughlin. La’Jean Berry also scored, while David Sikora completed the scoring in the game’s final minute off an assist from Nick Wartella.

Tunkhannock 3, Pittston Area 0

The Tigers scored three times in the game’s first 26 minutes to prevail.

Alex Paduck started the scoring off an assist from Eddie Melan. Melan then scored unassisted and completed the outburst with another goal off an assist by Paduck.

Keeper Ethan Munley made seven saves to record the shutout.

Meyers 2, Holy Redeemer 0

Tanner Nilon had a goal and assisted Aiden Flors with another as Meyers shut out Holy Redeemer.

Kenny Dewey added an assist for the Mohawks.


Wyoming Seminary 4, GAR 1

Emily Matthews scored three second-half goals as the Blue Knights pulled away for the victory.

AnneMaaike Reistma had the only goal in the first half to put Seminary up 1-0. GAR closed the scoring late in the second half when Katelyn George scored unassisted.

Lake-Lehman 2, Holy Redeemer 0

Sarah Salus and Chloe Weaver scored first-half goals as the Black Knights posted a road victory.

Lehman had a 19-16 shot advantage.

Crestwood 4, Berwick 2

Chyanne Cook and Melissa Herrera scored two goals each for Crestwood.

Abbie Seeley and Katie Starr had Berwick’s goals.

Wyo. Valley West 5, Hazleton Area 4 OT

Kennadi Josefowicz scored her fourth goal of the game with less than two minutes left in the second overtime to give the Spartans the victory.

Camila Arias scored twice for Hazleton Area.


Lackawanna Trail 5, Tunkhannock 0

Paige Hyde scored twice for Trail as it defeated Tunkhannock. Alyssa Fowler had two assists.

Coughlin 4, Nanticoke Area 0

Allyse Filipowich and Krystal Haertter scored two goals each for Coughlin. Keeper Courtney Wartella made four saves to preserve the shutout.

Meyers 0, GAR 0

The two city schools played to a scoreless overtime tie at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium on GAR’s Senior Night.

Meyers keeper Olivia Jackson made nine saves. GAR keeper Reilly Holden stopped three shots. GAR outshot Meyers 24-3.


Holy Redeemer 3, Hanover Area 0

Holy Redeemer swept Hanover Area 25-10, 25-6, 25-14.

Sarah Liskowicz (8 kills), Samantha Carr (3 kills, 6 points), Taylor Josefowicz (8 points) and Jenna Poor (3 assists) led Redeemer.

Nanticoke Area 3, Crestwood 0

Nanticoke Area topped Crestwood 25-6, 25-15, 25-7.

Alyssa Lewis had 10 kills, two aces and four digs for Nanticoke Area. Rayza Ruiz had 12 aces, six kills, seven digs and a block. Carly Reakes had 16 assist, two blocks and two digs.

Leading Crestwood were Kristen Kania (8 assists, 2 points) and Melanie Golden (5 digs, 3 kills).

Wyo. Valley West 3, MMI Prep 1

The Spartans won by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-27, 25-14.

Summer Evancho (10 kills, 19 points) and Elise Hreha (9 kills, 14 points) led MMI Prep.

Delaware Valley 3, Dallas 2

Delaware Valley rallied from two games down to defeat Dallas 15-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-8.

For Dallas, Gianna Musto had 11 kills, 12 digs and 11 points. Lindsey Hornlein had 18 points. Emma Berger had 27 assists, 11 digs and nine points.


Royals, Hawks win three each

Holy Redeemer defeated Coughlin and GAR by 15-50 scores and Pittston Area 15-47. Redeemer’s Bryce Zapusek was first overall and followed in order by teammates Lukas Volpetti, Chris Hine, George Strish and Nicholus Pikul.

Hanover Area topped Coughlin 17-44, GAR 15-50 and Pittston Area 26-32. Joey Rowley was seventh and Stephen Rowley was ninth for Hanover Area.

Pittston Area’s Dominic Angardi raced to sixth.


Redeemer, Hanover Area pace meet

Holy Redeemer posted wins of 15-50 over Coughlin and 20-39 over Pittston Area. Hanover Area topped Coughlin 15-50 and Pittston Area 21-34.

Pittston Area’s Nicole Zambetti paced the field to first place. Redeemer’s Cameron Marcinkowski and Anna Capaci were second and third, respectively. Caitlyn Bly led Hanover Area with a fifth place.

Coughlin’s Catherine Shuleski was fourth.



King’s 3, Wilkes 1

King’s defeated its city rival 19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.

Rachel Miller (18) and Becca Goldberg (14) led the King’s offense in kills. Wiatt Hoffmann provided 40 assists.

Alex Ferrier and Jamey Mikovich led Wilkes with 16 kills apiece.

DeSales 3, Misericordia 2

DeSales defeated Misericordia 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 27-29, 14-6.

Jassmine Watson had 15 kills and 14 digs for Misericordia while Sarah Pool had 15 kills, 13 digs and three aces.


Wilkes 2, King’s 1

Megan Lercara and Jessica Egan notched goals in the second half to lead Wilkes past King’s.
