Wyoming Valley West’s J.J. White joined elite wrestling company on Friday night.

The Spartan junior won his 132-pound bout against Honesdale by fall for career victory No. 100. Not only did he reach the milestone, but he did so without being hit with a loss to a wrestler in all of District 2.

With a 33-4 record this season, White became the first wrestler from the Wyoming Valley Conference to reach the 100-win milestone as a junior and not have a loss to a D2 opponent since Meyers’ Vito Pasone did so in his junior campaign in 2011.

White will be looking for his third straight District 2 Class 3A gold medal next weekend at Hazleton Area High School. He also joined Hanover Area’s D.J. Erickson and Lake-Lehman’s Bob Long as those have reached the 100-win milestone this season in the Wyoming Valley Conference.

There are four senior grapplers from the WVC, who are over 100 wins after getting there last year. Hazleton Area’s Shane Noonan, Dallas’ Steven Newell, Tunkhannock’s Tommy Traver, and White’s teammate David Krokowski are well over 100 wins.

Hazleton Area’s Charles Everdale currently sits at 99 career victories and can reach triple digits at districts.

The Spartans fell to the Hornets, 39-35 in their dual season finale.
