Before the three Wilkes-Barre city schools unite their athletic programs for the 2019-20 school year, some of their seniors will get a chance to join forces on the football field.

Coughlin, GAR and Meyers will all be part of the Pioneers team in the annual UNICO All-Star Football Classic on Friday, May 31. The charity game will be played at Wyoming Area’s stadium in West Pittston, with the start time to be announced.

Only two Wyoming Valley Conference teams won’t have a player participating. Pittston Area will miss the game for a second consecutive year, as the school’s prom is once again on the same day. Williamsport is a football-only member of the WVC and plays in a senior all-star game in District 4.

Here’s a look at the two teams.

The Pioneers will also be coached by Jeff Labatch, who ran the Meyers program for its final four seasons.
