What seemed like a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders cruise to victory was quickly taken away, turning Saturday’s contest against Syracuse into an extra-innings thriller.

A no-hit bid by Nestor Cortes Jr. that went into the eighth inning was followed by a a bullpen collapse before the RailRiders prevailed 4-2 in 10 innings for their fourth straight win.

Cortes stymied Mets batters, generating nine strikeouts in the contest. His 7.1 inning no-hit bid was thwarted when Rene Rivera singled on a line drive to left field.

Manager Jay Bell brought in J.P. Feyereisen to close the game out and attempt a five-out save. Feyereisen was able to finish the eighth unscathed before getting into trouble in the ninth.

After walking Luis Guillorme, Feyereisen served up a two-run home run to Mets outfielder Carlos Gomez to tie the game.

With minor-league rules starting a runner at second base in extra innings, Kyle Higashioka started on the basepaths for the RailRiders. He scored on a double by Mandy Alvarez to give the RailRiders a 3-2 lead.

Matt Lipka gave the RailRiders an insurance run with two outs in the 10th against Paul Sewald, smoking a double to left field to score Alvarez.

David Sosebee earned his first save of the season after he was summoned from the bullpen to start the bottom of the 10th inning. He got a ground out and two strikeouts in the frame.

The RailRiders got out in front in the top of the second inning. With runners on second and third, Mets starter Zach Lee threw a ball in the dirt past the catcher, Rivera, allowing Ryan McBroom to score from third and move Higashioka up 90 feet.

Later in the inning, veteran infielder Cliff Pennington hit a sac fly to center, plating Higashioka to extend the RailRiders lead to 2-0.

The RailRiders send Jonathan Loaisiga (0-2, 7.20 ERA) to the mound for Sunday’s tilt against the Mets.
