It took nearly six innings of perfection from an opposing pitcher to finally derail Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s winning streak.

Indianapolis starter Alex McRae didn’t allow a baserunner until there were two outs in the sixth and took a no-hitter into the seventh as the Indians knocked off the RailRiders 4-2 in a Thursday matinee at PNC Field.

The RailRiders had been 7-0 in May and nearly rallied to keep the streak alive, scoring in the eighth and ninth and bringing the tying run to the plate in each.

Indianapolis took an early 3-0 lead on a pair of RBI doubles in the third and another in the fourth against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter David Hale.

McRae set down the first 17 batters he faced until Matt Lipka drew a two-out walk in the sixth. Mandy Alvarez ended the no-hit bid with a double in the seventh, ending McRae’s afternoon.

The RailRiders (17-13) had better luck against the bullpen, as Mike Ford drove in Cliff Pennington with a single in the eighth. But the Indians got the run back in the top of the ninth on a home run by Patrick Kivlehan.

Down to their final two outs, the RailRiders got back-to-back doubles from Alvarez and Brad Miller, with the latter making it 4-2. But Zach Zehner struck out and Pennington grounded out to end the game.

Hale took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in five innings while striking out six and walking three.

David Sosebee and Rex Brothers each pitched two innings in relief.

The RailRiders open a three-game series with Toledo at PNC Field this weekend, beginning with today’s 6:35 p.m. game.

Drew Hutchison is scheduled to start.
