Hicks, Ford power RailRiders to bounce-back win over Toledo

Aaron Hicks had a quiet night on Friday in the first game of his Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rehab assignment.

He wasted no time in turning things around on Saturday afternoon.

Batting first and second in the lineup, Mike Ford and Hicks went back-to-back to open the bottom of the first with home runs, fueling a 5-1 win over Toledo at PNC Field.

After going 0-for-3 with a walk and a run in Friday’s loss, Hicks finished 3-for-4 as the Yankees outfielder added two doubles and scored twice.

Hicks scored on a Brad Miller sac fly in the third and again on a Kyle Higashioka double in the fifth.

Ford was equally impressive, hitting his sixth and seventh homers in his first two at-bats. The blasts traveled an estimated 446 and 453 feet, respectively.

Less than 24 hours after giving up 12 runs on 15 hits, the RailRiders (18-14) held the Mud Hens to just four hits.

Bullpen arm Raynel Espinal got the start and the win, pitching five innings of two-hit ball, allowing a solo shot to Dawel Lugo in the fifth.

Stephen Tarpley and Jake Barrett gave up just one hit apiece to close out the win.

The series against Toledo concludes Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. game in Moosic.
