Playing its first NCAA tournament game in program history, the Misericordia women’s lacrosse team didn’t flinch when challenged.

Down by a goal at halftime, the Cougars pulled ahead after the break and held off a late rally by Endicott College, winning 12-10 in a NCAA Division III opening round game at York College.

Misericordia set two school records with its 12th straight win and 15th total victory on the season while advancing to meet pod host York at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Lauren Weitzel finished with four goals to lead the Cougars, including three of their six scores in the first half.

Lexee Willey, Amy Roth and Shae O’Leary each had two goals while Emily Connell and Kaila Quinlivan added one apiece.

MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year Maggie McGovern made 11 saves with six ground balls.

Misericordia trailed 4-1 in the early going against the Seagulls and briefly pulled ahead before going into the locker room down 7-6.

The Cougars carried the play from there, getting three straight goals courtesy of Roth, O’Leary and Quinlivan and never trailed the rest of the way.

After an Endicott goal, Weitzel, Connell and O’Leary scored to make it 12-8. Connell’s goal proved to be the game winner after the Seagulls pulled with two with 1:29 remaining.
