H.S. Baseball: Lake-Lehman captures WVC Division 3 championship

CJ Cercone doubled and drove in two runs as Lake-Lehman defeated Hanover Area 6-2 Wednesday to clinch the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3 baseball title.

The Black Knights became the fourth different team to win the division in the last four years.

Max Paczewski was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Connor Morgan finished 2-for-3, and Alex Magdalinski was 2-for-3 with an RBI. He also picked up the win in relief.

Nanticoke Area 4, Tunkhannock 2

Trahjan Krupinski knocked in three runs and his brother Jake also had an RBI as Nanticoke Area eliminated Tunkhannock from contention for the WVC Division baseball 2 title. The division will come down to either Dallas or Wyoming Area.

Colby Butczynski pitched six innings, striking out seven, to pick up the win. Derek Cease picked up the save with three strikeouts in the seventh.

Tyler Faux and Mike Astegher had two hits each for Tunkhannock.

Wyoming Seminary 7, Northwest 0

Todd Phillips and Aiden Murphy homered as Wyoming Seminary pulled away for a victory over Northwest.

Phillips finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Murphy was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Jakson Amend had two hits.

Charlie Kutz pitched two innings of relief for the win. Four Blue Knights pitchers held Northwest to five hits and combined to strike out nine.

Hazleton Area 5, Pittston Area 4

The WVC Division 1 champion Cougars rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Pittston Area.

Chris Genao hit a sacrifice fly with one out to score Alex Almenter with the winning run.

JT Vozar had two RBI for Hazleton Area. Frank Degaetano had two hits and Genao added a double. Degaetano pitched two innings of relief for the win.

Cole Cherkas had two RBI and Derek Cunius knocked in a run for Pittston Area. Riley Broody had double.

Dallas 8, Old Forge 1

Jake Shaver struck out 10 over six innings as Dallas picked up a non-conference win.

Jake Connolly and Mike Luksic had two RBI each for the Mountaineers. Cooper Lewis was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Luksic also had a double.
