The Dallas team of John Toussaint and Alex DeRome finished fourth in the state in the Class 2A doubles portion of the PIAA Boys Tennis Championships.

Toussaint-DeRome made it to Saturday’s semifinals by winning a pair of matches Friday at the Hershey Indoor Racquet Club, but wound up losing twice Saturday to settle for fourth.

Wyomissing’s James Pottieger-Will Schreck defeated Toussaint-DeRome, 6-1, 7-5, in the morning semifinals on the way to claiming the championship. Toussaint-DeRome gave the champs the closest of their four matches at the state tournament.

Toussaint-DeRome then moved to the third-place match where the Dallas juniors lost a lengthy match to Robbie Shaff-Cyrus Elmi, the District 11 champions from Moravian Academy, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

During the regular season, Toussaint and DeRome played first and second singles on a Dallas team that finished second in both the Wyoming Valley Conference and the District 2 Class 2A team tournament. DeRome advanced to the finals of the singles tournament while Toussaint made the semifinals with each being eliminated by the state’s third-place player, Lenny Maiocco from Western Wayne.

Toussaint-DeRome reached the state tournament by winning the District 2 title.
