Fumble return seals Lackawanna upset of No. 7 Snow

KeShaun Moore returned a fumble recovery 51 yards for a touchdown Saturday, sealing Lackawanna College’s major 17-6 victory over No. 7 Snow College.

The Falcons defense kept Snow out of the end zone and surrendered just two first-half field goals.

Meanwhile, Lackawanna College took the lead on Matt Cavallaro’s second-half touchdown run.

The Falcons improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Snow College fell to 2-2.

MEN’S SOCCER

Misericordia 1, Rutgers-Camden 0

Levi Roberts scored the only goal of the game midway through the first overtime to lift the Cougars. Roberts scored on a free kick from 30 yards at 94:51 on the only shot of the extra period. Andrew Daubenspeck made seven saves in goal to earn the shutout.

Wilkes 0, Haverford 0

Sophomore goalkeeper Russell Rauh made a career-high 10 saves to help Wilkes finish in a double-overtime draw.

King’s 3, SUNY New Paltz 2

Aidan DeCamillo scored twice for the Monarchs, including the game-winning goal late in the 84th minute.

DeCamillo scored his second goal of the match and fifth of the week with a rocket into the upper right from nearly 30 yards away. The win for King’s was their fourth straight and their third time scoring three or more goals in a match this year.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Wilkes 3, Bard 0

Jessica Egan put the Colonels on the board in the 19th minute when she took a cross from the right side off the foot of Lexi Gaetano and swiveled past a Bard defender before depositing the ball into the back of the net. Kiana Jedlicka sealed the victory when she scored off a cross from Kiele Riefenstahl to round out the Colonels’ scoring.

FIELD HOCKEY

Keystone 2, Elmira 0

Former Coughlin standout Savanna Robinson hit her ninth goal of the season eight minutes in and Lake-Lehman grad Taylor Cercone later hit an insurance goal to lift the Giants to victory.

Senior keeper Megan Novak, another Coughlin grad, made two saves for her second shutout of the season.

King’s 5, Neumann 0

Sophomore Hannah Robbins scored two goals to spark the Monarchs.

Former Wyoming Seminary star Emily Sims added an assist in the win.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Misericordia 3, Goucher 1

Misericordia 3, Wesley 0

Fiona Pyfer had 12 kills and Tara Welliver added 11 as the Cougars rallied for a 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 win in the opener.

Welliver had a team-high 16 kills in 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 sweep of Wesley.

King’s 3, Marywood 1

Becca Goldberg led the Monarchs with a match-high 15 kills and Grace Frati finished with 12 kills and 14 digs for a double-double as the Monarchs rallied for victory.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Misericordia places second at Classic

Olivia Visaggio finished third to lead the Cougars a runner-up finish at the Cougar Classic at Letternkenny Fields.

Alexa Thompson was sixth and Rowan Pepe (11th), Shelbi Jones (17th) and Nina Acosta (19th) rounded out Misercordia’s top five.

King’s College got a fifth-place overall finish from former Pittston Area standout Tara Johnson, who ran her fast 6K time of 24:40 in the event and Marywood finished third overall in the team standings.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Forgash among top 12

Wyoming Valley West grad Mitchell Forgash placed 12th for King’s in his first 8,000-meter race with a time of 29 minutes to lead King’s in the Cougar Classic. All four King’s runners placed in the top 21.

Marywood’s David Haines won the individual title in 26:08.40. He beat Misericordia’s Zachary Davis, who finished second by nearly a minute and a half. The host Cougars won the team title though with 26 points behind six top-ten finishes.

HIGH SCHOOLS

GIRLS TENNIS

Tunkhannock 4, Towanda 0

Jillian Landon won a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 match at No. 1 singles to start the Tigers on a sweep. The top doubles match was halted by weather.

Blue Mountain 4, Hazleton Area 1

Alyssa Mazurek took a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the top singles match for the Cougars, but Blue Mountain swept the rest of the non-conference match.

BOYS SOCCER

Wyoming Sem 4, MMI Prep 1

Luke Johns had a hat trick as the Blue Knights won a game played Friday. Jimmy Kelly made 18 saves in net for the Preppers.
