Wyoming Seminary edges Wyoming Area in boys soccer showdown

WYOMING — Reggie Grayek scored 50 seconds into overtime as Wyoming Seminary edged Wyoming Area 3-2 Wednesday in an early-season battle for first place in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 boys soccer.

Grayek finished with three goals. He connected on a 30-yard grounder about 16 minutes into the game and scored off an assist by Luke Johns with just over five minutes left in regulation to give the Blue Knights a 2-1 lead.

Wyoming Area forced overtime when Gavin Lahart settled a pass just inside the 18 and scored with 2:32 on the clock. Lahart also lined in a 35-yard direct kick about 10 minutes into the second half.

Lake-Lehman 5, Hanover Area 0

Kyle Sincavage and Max Paczewski each scored twice to lead Lake-Lehman past Hanover Area.

Sincavage scored the first and third goal while Paczewski scored the second and fourth. Ayden Carey scored a goal and an assist.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwest 5, Hanover Area 0

Milana Straub recorded a hat trick as Northwest shutout Hanover Area.

Straub scored the first, third and fifth goals for the Rangers. Cassidy Gray made four saves en route to the shutout.

Lackawanna Trail 10, Tunkhannock 1

Lackawanna Trail rolled past Tunkhannock, scoring 10 goals.

Mara Adams scored the only goal for the Tigers in the first half.

GIRLS TENNIS

Holy Redeemer 3, Dallas 2

Tia Amerise and Cassie Benderavich won singles matches for Holy Redeemer and Carissa Benderavich/Jordan Stochla won a doubles match for them to secure victory.

Sarah Stallard won a singles match for the Mountaineers and Gabby Avila/Aubrey DelGaudio won the doubles match for them.

Crestwood 3, MMI Prep 2

Breena Kravchick won the lone singles match for Crestwood and Hannah Sobolewski/Megan McLaughlin won the doubles match.

Katherine Pinto and Lindsay Braunstein won at singles for MMI Prep.

Wilkes-Barre Area 3, Pittston Area 2

Rachel Bath, Chabee Patel and Bry Soriano each won their singles matches for Wilkes-Barre Area.

Kylie Herbert/Dana Zuba and Marissa Moran/Hannah Farber won doubles matches for the Patriots.

Hazleton Area 4, Hanover Area 1

Alyssa Mazurek and Maddie Terraccino won the singles matches for Hazleton Area and Alondra Segura/Jasmine VanCamp won the doubles match.

Ally Richards won a singles match for the Hawkeyes.

Wyoming Seminary 4, Wyoming Area 1

Emily Urbanski and Shailee Desai won singles matches for Wyoming Seminary and Paige Parsons/Nicole Joanlanne and Margaret Mihalick/Dominica Delayo won at doubles.

Brianna Pizzano picked up a singles win for the Warriors.

GOLF

Wyoming Seminary 164, MMI Prep 190

Andrew Maddock was the medalist and shot a 39 for the Blue Knights at Wyoming Valley Country Club. Jeremy Callahan followed with a 40.

Noah Long and Christian Yamulla led the way for MMI Prep with 47s.

Holy Redeemer 155, Wyoming Area 191

Sean Boland was the medalist and led the Royals with a 35. Kip Miller followed with a 39.

Cole Coolbaugh led Wyoming Area with a 44.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Pittston Area 3, Lake-Lehman 0

The Patriots defeated Lake-Lehman 25-16, 25-22, 25-23.

Michalie Mazurkivish had seven service points, six kills and seven blocks to lead Pittston Area.

Kyle Blazick led the Black Knights with 42 digs and 10 service points.

Hazleton Area 3, Wilkes-Barre Area 0

Hazleton Area swept the Wolfpack 25-15, 25-11, 25-12.

The Cougars were led by Layla Buglio who had 15 service points, nine kills, two blocks, one assist and one dig. Faith Grula added six service points, 11 kills, two blocks and five digs.

Nanticoke Area 3, Dallas 0

The Trojans swept Dallas 25-18, 25-15, 25-13.

Myla Vnuk had three aces, 11 kills, one assist, three blocks and four digs to lead Nanticoke Area. Rielly Miller added two kills, 10 assists and two digs.

North Pocono 3, Hanover Area 2

The Hawks fell to North Pocono in five sets 25-7, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25 and 15-9 on Tuesday.

Hanover Area was led by Ali Sheridan who had 11 aces, 27 service points and three kills.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Warriors running strong

Wyoming Area placed three of its runners in the top four, finishing in first, second and fourth.

Michael Branley had the best time of the day, finishing at 16:43. Jacob Katulka followed at 17:19. Brandon Fleshcut of Dallas placed third at 17:20, Kyle Emsley finished fourth at 17:22 and Wyoming Seminary’s Angelo Lombardo finished fifth at 17:27.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Dallas, Berwick on top

Dallas and Berwick each placed two runners in the top five, Berwick at fourth and fifth, Dallas at second and third.

Aubriana Marranca from Wyoming Area had the best time at 19:50. Kaitlyn Hadakowski was second at 20:34 and Megan Burton followed at 20:40. Jaida Geiser finished fourth at 21:00 d Sophia Guerriero rounded out the top five at 22:45.

MEN’S SOCCER

Wilkes 1, Susquehanna 0

Kyle Bentz’s penalty kick in the second half gave Wilkes a non-conference win.

Russell Rauh made seven saves to earn his second straight shutout.

FIELD HOCKEY

Wilkes 1, Moravian 0

Lauren Baldwin scored the game’s only goal with just 45 seconds left in the game.

Mya Zak earned the win and shutout for Wilkes, both firsts in her college career.

Misericordia 2, Oneonta 0

Misericordia defeated Oneonta at home behind a two-point night from Kyleigh Knell.

Knell scored a goal and added an assist on Madisyn Granoski’s goal.

Katelyn Campbell made four saves to earn a shutout.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Misericordia 0, William Smith 0

The Cougars were able to shut down the top-ranked team in the country and force a draw.

Alexis Benedetto made six saves to hold the top team off and earn a shutout.

King’s 5, Centenary 0

King’s scored five goals including three from Breanna Jacinto to defeat Centenary.

Outside of Jacinto’s three goals, the Monarchs also received goals from Emily Harrington and Bekah Araujo.

Erica Blackburn made four saves to earn the shutout for King’s.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Misericordia 3, Delaware Valley 0

The Cougars swept Delaware Valley in their conference opener.

Fiona Pyfer led Misericordia with 11 kills and 10 digs and Faith Merritt added 10 kills and 11 digs.

King’s 3, FDU Florham 0

The Monarchs defeated FDU-Florham in their first conference game.

Wiatt Hoffman had 38 digs and 16 kills to lead the Monarchs. Becca Goldberg added 12 kills.
