Ithaca College junior Stanley Zaneski was named Liberty League Swimmer of the Year and it was an easy selection after he had a standout performance for the Bombers in the league championship last weekend in Ithaca, N.Y.

Zaneski, from Edwardsville and a Wyoming Seminary graduate, won three individual races and was part of three winning relays to help the team finish second to five-time champion Rensselaer Poly.

The freestyle standout captured his third straight 50 free title with a time of 20.57 to earn an NCAA Division III B cut time. He defended his 100 free title with a time of 45.24, which is also a B cut time. And, he captured his first 200 free title in 1:41.50, nearly a second faster than the runner-up.

In the three relays, 200 free relay touched the wall first in 1:23.67. Zaneski led off and posted a school record time of 20.48 for his 50 yards. He anchored the 200 medley relay with a meet record time of 1:31.89. And the 400 medley relay won with a time of 3:21.55 — a pool, meet and team record.

Zaneski just missed another gold when the 400 free relay finished second with a time of 3:05.41 and dropped a narrow decision to Rochester Tech.

“Stanley was kind of the anchor of the whole team,” coach Kevin Markwardt said. “He was very determined to perform well.”

The coach said that Zaneski had a few ups and downs through the season.

“I was really impressed how he pulled himself together,” Markwardt said. “I am always amazed that he is not going to get beat. He is never afraid to go up against anyone.”

The coach was impressed that he won all three of his individual events and was part of three winning relays.

“He is the kind of guy that never complains, never doubts himself and the team could really feed off of the success he had in the pool and his positive attitude,” Markwardt said.

Megan Hayward (Kutztown)

The junior, in her first season and competing in the PSAC Championships for the first time, gave the women’s swim team a strong effort last weekend in York. The Tunkhannock graduate finished 17th in the 1650 freestyle in 18:25.59, which stands 10th all-time in program history and was a 44 second improvement over her previous best time.

She also finished 24th in the 1000 free (11:03.36), 25th in the 500 free (5:25.28) and 35th in the 200 free (2:00.78). She helped the 400 medley relay (3:41.78) and 800 free relay (8:01.22) both finish eighth.

Alexis Lewis (Seton Hall)

The 5-foot-10 senior had a team-high 22 points and a season high 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the women’s basketball team dropped a tough 77-76 Big East game to St. John’s last Saturday. It was the Holy Redeemer graduate’s third double-double of the season for the Pirates, who are 16-11 overall and 9-7 in league play.

Lewis is third on the team in scoring with a 12.7 average. She’s also averaging 5.8 rebounds a game with 34 assists and a team-high 50 steals.

Madisyn Hawkins (Lehigh)

The junior will have her eyes on the pole vault title when she competes in the Patriot League Indoor Track Championship this weekend in Bethlehem. The Coughlin graduate finished first at the Bucknell Tune-up last Friday with a height of 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches. That places her tied for seventh on the league’s seed chart.

That’s the same height she hit when she finished third in last year’s title meet. Her personal best is 12-7 ½ inches which she posted when she finished fifth in the league meet as a freshman.

Abby Norwillo (Penn)

The sophomore finished fourth in the pole vault to help the women’s indoor track team capture its second straight title at the Ivy League Championships last weekend in Cambridge, Mass. The Pittston Area graduate cleared 12 feet, 10 inches. The three women ahead of her also cleared 12-10 but they did it faster than she did.

The effort ties Norwillo’s personal best. That came when she finished fourth in the Ivy title meet last year as a freshman.

Mike Doggett (Harvard)

The true freshman wrapped up the wrestling team’s dual meet season with a big victory as the Crimson dropped a 19-18 tie-breaking decision to Brown in an Ivy League match last Saturday.

Doggett, from Harveys Lake and a Wyoming Seminary graduate, competed at 184 pounds against Brandon Kui and the match was tied 1-1. But he held off a takedown try by Kui to force overtime. He used that momentum and came away with a 3-1 sudden victory.

Morgan Manglaviti (Clarion)

The senior scored points in all six events she swam in to help the women’s team finish fourth out of eight schools in the PSAC Championships last weekend in York. The Tunkhannock graduate finished fourth in the 200 free (1:54.26), seventh in the 50 free (24.38) and eighth in the 100 free (52.99).

She also helped the 400 free relay finish third (3:32.13), the 200 free relay finish fourth (1:36.72) and the 800 free relay finish fourth (7:45.39).

John Porter Luksic (Widener)

The senior helped the men’s swim team finish fourth out of 12 teams at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship on Feb. 13-15 in York. The Dallas High graduate finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a school record time of 57.81. He also finished third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.53.

He bettered his school record in the prelims when he touched the wall in 2:06.92. Luksic also helped the 400 medley relay finish fourth in 3:31.32 and the 200 medley relay finish sixth in 1:38.58.

Emmanuel Edoukou (King’s)

The junior set two school records for the men’s indoor track team at the Marc Deneault Invitational last Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y. The GAR graduate captured the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.72 and finished fourth in the 60 meter dash, the top Division III runner to cross the line, in 7.08.

The effort placed Edoukou second in the 60 and third in the 200 heading into this weekend’s MAC Championship in Reading.

Jill Warabak (Lafayette)

The sophomore prepped for the Patriot League Indoor Track Championship this weekend in Bethlehem by finishing first in the 60 meter hurdles at the Bucknell Tune-up last Friday. Warabak, from Pittston and a Holy Cross graduate, posted a time of 8.90. That tied her personal best and earned her eighth place in the league performance list heading into the championship.

She also earned a spot on the ECAC Division I Championship March 4-8 in Boston.
