The Old Forge School District announced Saturday that it is temporarily suspending all athletic and extra-curricular activities.

Superintendent Erin Keating said in a letter “this decision was made with the health, safety and welfare of our students and staff as our primary concern.”

Keating added the school district will continue to monitor all data and information concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and make updates to the school community on any changes to policy or practices.

No reason was given for the suspension. The Scranton School District made the same announcement via Twitter on Friday night, saying that all voluntary summer conditioning will cease until further notice. Like Old Forge, no reason was given.

Fall sports teams throughout the area have been conducting voluntary workouts under a safety plan formulated by individual school districts. The first official day for fall practice is Aug. 17.
