The John A. Allan Invitational started up on Friday with 22 duos playing to qualify for the weekend championship at Fox Hill Country Club.
The top 16 qualified with the top seven teams shooting under par in the qualifier.
Leading the field was the team of Mark Answini and Shamus Gartley with a 5-under 66. They were two strokes ahead of Richard Laneski and Eric Plisko, who were at 3-under.
John Mulhern Jr. and Zach Mulhern shot a 2-under, while four teams all came in at 1-under — Robert Gill and Brian Corbett; A.J. Donatoni and Don Donatoni; Robert Santarelli and John Barone and William Burke and Christian Davis.
The tournament, which is in its 74th year, was originally scheduled for June 26-28 before being postponed.
Restrictions are in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including reducing the field “and several enhanced safety measures to align with the recommendations of the Department of the Health,” according to Fox Hill, which includes not allowing spectators.
