Comets clobber Warriors in baseball opener

Designated hitter Zach Campbell had three hits and four runs batted in to lead Abington Heights over Delaware Valley, 12-4, in a Lackawanna League baseball crossover game April 6 in Milford. Shortstop Jimmy Fayocavitz had three hits and pitcher Tyler Ksiazek and left fielder Eric Salerno each added two hits for the Comets.

Zach Manasek and Matt McDonald each struck out seven batters to lead Abington Heights over Wallenpaupack, 4-0, in a crossover game April 9 in Hawley. Ksiazek led the Comets with three hits.

Cavaliers drop opening baseball game

Shortstop Dan Ryan, first baseman Michael Leri and pitcher Nate Fiala each drove in a run during Scranton Prep’s 6-4 loss to North Pocono in a Lackawanna League crossover game April 6 in Scranton. Fiala also recorded six strikeouts for the Classics.

Classics win softball opener

Ilissa Hamilton struck out 10 batters to lead Scranton Prep over North Pocono, 2-0, in a nonleague softball game April 6 in Scranton. Hamilton also contributed two hits and scored a run. Left fielder Clare Schoen added two hits and third baseman Jessica Regan drove in both runs for the Classics.

Right fielder Brooke Borys led the Classics with three hits. First baseman Bridget Walsh added two hits, including a home run, for Prep.

Lions drop volleyball matches

Despite 14 digs from Aidan Holmes and seven kills from Ross Fauquier, Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Blue Ridge, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League boys volleyball match April 7 in New Milford.

Western Wayne downed Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League boys volleyball match April 9 in Factoryville. Holmes led the Lions with 14 digs while Nick Miller contributed eight digs.

Cavaliers ousted in track meet

Scranton Prep was defeated, 76-47, by North Pocono in a Lackawanna League crossover meet April 7 in Moscow. Jack McGrath placed first in the 110 hurdles and high jump. Alex Karam won the 400. Kyle Perry placed first in the 3200. The 1600 relay team of Shoemaker, Karam, Powell and Nardone also placed first in the meet.

Classics fall to Lady Trojans in track

North Pocono defeated Scranton Prep, 87-36, in a Lackawanna League crossover meet April 7 in Moscow. Kate McGrath placed first in the long jump. Erin Feeney won the 1600. Kate Reilly placed first in the 800. Emily Carr won the 3200.

Comets win tennis matches

Abington Heights defeated Dunmore, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League tennis match April 8 in Clarks Summit. Rishi Mulloth, Sahas Chandragiri and Brandon Ostrowski won their singles matches. The doubles teams of Bailey Harris-Jamie Calvo-Barrio and Dylan Eisenhower-Sam Linker also picked up wins for the Comets.

Comets win on the track

Abington Heights defeated Scranton, 78-71, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 boys track and field meet April 8 in South Abington Township. Jon Galaydick placed first in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Jake Henzes won the 100 and 200. Matt Barrett placed first in the 400. Jacob Ross won the 3200. Matt Coggins placed first in the shot put. Anthony Kimble won the discus event. Nathan Langan placed first in javelin. The 1600 (M. Borgia, Galaydick, Barrett, and Henzes) and 3200 relay (Rickwood, Ross, Barrett, and Phillips) teams also placed first.

Lady Comets top Lady Knights

Abington Heights downed Scranton, 130-19, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 girls track and field meet April 8 in South Abington Twp. Abby McMinn placed first in the 110 hurdles, shot put, discuss, long jump, and triple jump. Allyson Derry won the 100. Katie Dammer placed first in the 1600 and 800. Tiana Yarns won the 400. Celia Davis placed first in the 300 hurdles. Emily Clauss won the 200. Alex Scheuermann placed first in the 3200. Michaelina Holmes won the high jump. Samantha Klapatch placed first in the pole vault. The 3200 (Traweek, Scheuermann, Marion, Danoski), 400 (Derry, Christman, Henzes, Holmes), and 1600 (Christman, Yarns, Danoski, McMinn) also had wins for the Lady Comets.

Trail edged by Mountain View in track

Mountain View defeated Lackawanna Trail, 78-71, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 track and field meet April 9. Matt Farrell placed first in the 110 and 300 hurdles. Matt Kinback won the 1600 and high jump. Evan Sandercock placed first in the shot put. Nathaniel Barbolish won the javelin event. The 1600 relay team of Farrell, DeBree, Holmes and Kinback also placed first for the Lions.

Prep tennis wins three matches

Scranton Prep downed West Scranton, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League boys tennis match March 9 in Scranton. Pete Kazmierczak, Tony Kutz, and Tarquin McGurrin picked up singles wins. The teams of Rhys Kelly-Jack Habeeb and Will Haggerty-Alex Riccio won in doubles action.

Scranton Prep defeated Wallenpaupack, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League march March 11 in Scranton. Kazmierczak, Kutz, and McGurrin won singles matches. Kelly-Habeeb and Chris McGrath-Sahil Garg won in doubles play.

Scranton Prep downed Western Wayne, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League boys tennis match March 11 in Lake Ariel. Kazmierczak, Kutz, and McGurrin picked up singles wins. McGrath- Habeeb and Kelly-Nick LaBaelle teamed for doubles wins.
