H.S. Boys Basketball: Hazleton Area rallies to defeat Meyers

Josh Samec scored 20 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as Hazleton Area rallied from a five-point deficit at halftime to defeat Meyers 57-51 Tuesday in Wyoming Valley Conference boys basketball.

Jeff Planutis added 16 for Hazleton Area, which trailed 27-22 at the break.

Jawane Buckner scored 22 to pace Meyers.

Wyoming Seminary 68, Hanover Area 50

Wyoming Seminary used a big third quarter to pull away from Hanover Area and post a victory.

The Division 3 first-place Blue Knights trailed 31-28 at halftime, but outscored Hanover Area 21-9 in the third quarter.

Dimitri Gnall paced Seminary with 23 points. Jeremy Callahan and Todd Phillips scored 13 each.

Hanover Area’s Tyler Thomas netted 19.

Wyoming Area 46, Pittston Area 30

Wyoming Area held rival Pittston Area to nine points in the first half while Sam Greenfield led the offense with 20 points.

Naseem Guillaume led Pittston Area with nine points, all in the second half.

Nanticoke Area 69, Wyoming Valley West 62

Nate Kreitzer scored 22 points, Trahjan Krupinski added 19 and Nanticoke Area held off a Wyoming Valley West really attempt in the fourth quarter.

Colby Butczynski added 14 for the Trojans.

Justus Simpson topped Valley West with 22. Mason Mendygral scored 18 while leading scorer Draig Ruff was limited to 10. The Spartans connected on 13 3-point shots, most in a WVC game this season.

Crestwood 61, GAR 45

Camden Boris scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the critical third quarter as the Comets eased away from host GAR.

Mike Palmiero scored 16 and Evan Knapp tossed in 10 for Crestwood.

Will Johnson paced GAR with 17. Tyler Young added 13.

Tunkhannock 66, Coughlin 40

Tunkhannock took control by halftime, limiting Coughlin to 12 points in the first two quarters.

Tyler Faux led Tunkhannock with 24 points. Sean Harder added 16, including 11 in the first half as the Tigers took a 30-12 lead at the break.

Tony Egidio led Coughlin with 13.

Dallas 62, Berwick 40

Joey Parsons hit all three of the Mounts’ 3-pointers and paced Dallas with a game-high 22 points in a road win. Alex Charlton and Jay Bittner added eight points apiece.

Damon Beckhorn led the Bulldogs with 17.

Holy Redeemer 59, Lake-Lehman 45

Collin Cook topped all scorers with 24 points as the Royals pulled away with a 22-point third quarter. Bryce Yencha and JD Turosky each finished with 10 points.

Max Paczewski scored 19 for the Black Knights.
