DALLAS — The Misericordia University women’s lacrosse team jumped to an early lead and extended their winning streak to seven games with a 15-8 victory over Eastern on Monday night.

Olivia Garcia and Allie Elmes both scored five goals and Lindsay McKim added a pair as the Cougars improved to 9-6 overall and 5-0 in the MAC Freedom. Cara Spector had a goal and two assists.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

King’s sweeps Keystone

King’s picked up a pair of wins Monday with a doubleheader sweep of Keystone College at the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King’s, which won by scores of 3-1 and 11-0 in five innings, improved to 21-15 while Keystone slipped to 14-20.

In the opener, Brianna DiMaggio finished 3 for 4 with a run and two RBI while Lexi Wolk was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Amber Saylor also added two hits for King’s. Samantha Bloom was the winning pitcher for the Monarchs, tossing a complete-game two hitter while striking out five batters.

In the nightcap, Saylor and Wolk were both 2 for 2 with two runs while Megan Beaupre finished 2 for 3 with two RBI. Rachel Linso was the winning pitcher for King’s, scattering six hits to earn the shutout win.

COLLEGE GOLF

Misericordia placed seventh, Wilkes finishes ninth in MAC

The Misericordia women’s golf team concluded its season at the MAC Championships, finishing in seventh at the Hershey Country Club. Wilkes placed ninth.

Misericordia’s Darian Reimer shot 97-101 (198) and finished tied for 16th while Michaela McQuaig shot 100-103 (203) and finished tied for 21st. The team finished with a two-day total of 916.

Alex Flood topped Wilkes individual scorers, carding a 244 (125-119) over the two rounds of play. Christy Taylor followed shooting a 272 (129-143). Wilkes shot a combined 1,125.

Viti named top track athlete

Misericordia’s Amy Viti, a Hanover Area graduate, has been named the MAC Women’s Track Athlete of the week.

A senior, Viti ran three top times in the MAC in three events while competing in two meets over the weekend.

She won the 400m (56.98) and 4x400m (3:59.41) at Widener. She set a school record (2:01.03) while finishing 25th of 80 runners at the Princeton Invitational. All three times are tops in the MAC this season.

McLoughlin wins lacrosse award

Misericordia women’s lacrosse standout Katie McLoughlin has been named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week.

A junior goalie, McLoughlin made 18 saves (.643) with nine ground balls while allowing just 10 goals in a 2-0 week to clinch a postseason berth.

Mason named top MAC pitcher

Misericordia’s Zach Mason has been named the MAC Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Week.

The first-year lefty threw his second-straight complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out six batters against King’s.

Wilkes’ Vasarkovy, Murphy top tennis players

Wilkes women’s tennis freshman Jordan Vasarkovy and men’s tennis freshman Courtney Murphy have been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom tennis Players of the Week.

Vasarkovy earned her second award, helping Wilkes to a 3-0 week by winning three times at both No. 2 singles and No.1 doubles.

Murphy posted four wins at No. 1 singles and two victories at No. 2 doubles as Wilkes went 3-1.

King’s Palma top MAC golfer

King’s junior Corey Palma was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom men’s Golfer of the Week.

Palma won the MAC Freedom Individual Title on Sunday with a two-day score of 157 (+15). He shot a 78 on day one and then a 79 on the second day to win by two strokes. He was also named the 2016 MAC Freedom Golfer of the Year.

He became the fifth golfer in program history to win a conference championship and the first since Leo Yerashunas won medalist honors in 1997 when the Middle Atlantic Conference combined both sides of the conference.

Korgeski earns track field events honor

King’s freshman Jill Korgeski, a Dunmore graduate, was named the MAC women’s outdoor track and field Field Athlete of the Week. She earned King’s first-ever conference outdoor track and field honors in the program’s inaugural season.

Korgeski, who won Field Athlete of the Week three times, won the shot put at the All-American Invitational at East Stroudsburg on Saturday with a meet record throw of 13.47 meters. Her mark currently is the best in the conference and region this season and ranked 11th in the nation. On Saturday her throw was better than the 50 other Division II, Division III, Community College, and unattached athletes competing at the Invitational.
