The King’s College women’s basketball team began the second half of conference play with a huge 65-62 overtime victory at Manhattanville College in a battle for first place.
The Monarchs (12-8, 6-2) moved into a first-place tie with FDU-Florham, while also earning their first season sweep over Manhattanville (14-3, 5-2) since 2014-15.
Holy Redeemer grad Rebecca Prociak led the way with a career-high 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Hazleton Area grad Mackenzie Yori and Berwick grad Alexis Steeber scored 13 points each while Wyoming Valley West grad Olivia Hoffman recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
The Monarchs shot 36.2 percent from the field on 58 attempts and 6-for-14 percent from beyond-the-arc.
Delaware Valley 67, Wilkes 61
Delaware Valley took its largest lead of the game early in the fourth quarter before an Alyssa Alfano 3-pointer kept Wilkes close down 51-44.
Gianna Roberts scored five quick points — a 3-pointer and inside score — and Vanessa Whitecavage hit two free throws to cut the lead to 63-58 with just under a minute remaining in the game. Wilkes drew an offensive foul on the next Delaware Valley possession and Chelsea Erckes drained a three to bring Wilkes to within two down 63-61.
Delaware Valley beat the press and scored in transition on the ensuing possession to go back up by four 65-61 with 24 seconds left. Down four with the ball, Alfano’s driving layup was off the mark and Delaware Valley grabbed the rebound hitting one of two free throws to seal the conference victory.
Roberts recorded her fourth double-double of the season shooting 5-for-11 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. Catey McFadden followed with nine points and five rebounds while Alfano chipped in eight points including two three-pointers.
FDU-Florham 84, Misericordia 61
FDU-Florham put together a 15-2 run early in the first half and a 12-3 run in the second half to seal their victory over the Cougars.
Page Wampole added 11 points and seven rebounds for Misericordia.
MEN
Wilkes 58, Delaware Valley 57
Tommy Bowen and Mason Gross both provided huge minutes off the bench in the second half to lead Wilkes to an exciting win over Delaware Valley.
Bowen led the way for the Colonels, tying his season-high with 14 points to go with seven rebounds and two assists. Gross just missed his respective season high, adding in 11 points and four rebounds in 16 minutes.
King’s 64, Manhattanville 60
The Monarchs overcame a nine-point deficit with five minutes remaining in a comeback victory over host Manhattanville College.
With the win, King’s head coach J.P. Andrejko is now one victory away from 250 for his career at King’s.
With King’s trailing 59-58, the Monarchs captured the lead on a layup from Chris Fazzini with 46 seconds remaining. Following a Fazzini steal with 18 seconds to go, Noah Tanner was fouled and made both free throws to give King’s a 62-59 advantage.
Fazzini led King’s with 21 points and eight rebounds while Connor Callejas followed with 15 points, three assists, and a trio of three-pointers. Tyler Millan tallied 11 points with three 3-pointers while Tony Maloney added eight points off the bench.
Misericordia 66, FDU-Florham 62
The Cougars staged a late comeback with five minutes remaining against FDU-Florham.
Stone McCreery scored 19 points in the contest leading four players in double figures for Misericordia. With a tied game at 58-58, McCreery put the Cougars up for good.
Harrisburg 108, LCCC 69
Jordan Black scored 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Trailblazers, but LCCC fell to Harrisburg.
