Stanley Cooper Sr. Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a presentation led by local author and fly fisherman, Don Baylor, will be the featured speaker in April. He will have a presentation on “little known hatches that you may encounter while fly fishing.”

The general meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month, September through May at 7:30 p.m. in the VFW, Anthracite Post, Kingston. The meetings are open to the public and there is no admission charge.

The NEPA Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited will hold its first banquet, “Hunters Night Out,” on Saturday, April 18 at the Triton Hose Company on 126 Warren St. in Tunkhannock. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. with raffles and a social hour followed by a buffet at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50/single, $20/spouse and $20 for those under 15. Sponsorships are also available. There will be raffles for numerous firearms, including a Henry Golden Boy .22 and a Remington 700 .270.

A Sportsman and Outdoor Show will be held on April 11-12 at the Sugarloaf Township Fire Station on 95 West County Rd. in Sugarloaf. Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The show is presented by the Arbutus Masonic Lodge #611. Admission is $5 and children under 12 are free. Meet the Land Trusts & Their Lands Around Us will be held on Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Thornhurst Township Building, 356 Old River Road, Thornhurst. The Nature Conservancy, Natural Lands Trust, North Branch Land Trust, Wildlands Conservancy, and Pocono Heritage Land Trust will make informal presentations and bring many maps and photos to share. For those who are interested in walking, birding or seeing the lands that are being protected, this will provide you with information on many new areas that are now open to the public. The Greater Wyoming Valley Audubon Society will host Wildlife Diversity Biologist Richard Fritsky of the PA Game Commission during its monthly meeting on April 20, 7 p.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 105 Irem Rd in Dallas. Fritsky will be providing a presentation on the ecology of bats and northern flying squirrels. He’ll discuss white nose syndrome and other challenges that these species face, what PGC has been doing to conserve them, and what individuals like us can do to help. The Western Pocono Chapter of Trout Unlimited will sponsor a special program at Nescopeck State Park on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. The program title: “The Poconos of Pa. – Cradle of American Trout Fishing”. Renowned Pocono trout fisherman, author, and artist Don Baylor, will provide a slide presentation on the notable and historic anglers, destinations, and literature of the Poconos during the 1800’s and early 1900’s and their importance to the development of fly fishing in America. Evidence exists that the Poconos were at least as important as the Catskills regarding the origins and evolution of trout fishing in this country. Many celebrities, presidents and fishing writers visited legendary hotels like the Henryville House and added to the sport’s lore. As a kickoff to the 2015 trout fishing season Don will highlight the rich flyfishing heritage that began and developed in our own back yard. The program is free. The Orwell Antique Trap Show, sponsored by the North American Trap Collectors Association, will be held on May 1-2 at the Orwell Community Hall on Route 187 in North Orwell.
