Nicolas Aube-Kobel scored in a shootout as Lehigh Valley rallied late to beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-1 Saturday at PPL Arena in the next-t0-last game of the regular season.

Kobel was the fourth shooter after the teams played a scoreless overtime period and slipped a shot past Penguins goalie and former Philadelphia Flyer and Phantom Michael Leighton to give the Phantoms the victory.

Both teams struggled to find offense on a night that was pretty much scoreless, save for a few seconds.

Garrett Wilson broke the ice when he became the first player to find the net, giving the Penguins a late-game 1-0 lead.

But Chris Connor answered for the Phantoms with 47 seconds to play, tying the game and forcing the teams to overtime.

Leighton stopped 30 of 31 shots through overtime, while Phantoms goalie Alex Lyon saved 26 of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s 27 shots.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will will close the regular season Sunday against the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center in Herskey. Then the Penguins will play either the Charlotte Checkers or Providence Bruins in the first round of the upcoming Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Penguins announced their home dates for the first round best-of-five playoff series.

They will play at Mohegan Sun Arena in Game 3 at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, April 26 and, if necessary at 7:05 p.m. in Game 4 on Saturday, April 25. If that first-round series goes five games, the Penguins will host it at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, April 29.
