When the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders’ season gets going Friday, April 6, 2018, the New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate will have a new voice floating across the radio waves in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Marco joins the RailRiders as the director of broadcast and media relations after spending the last 11 seasons at different stops in Minor League Baseball, and most recently with the West Virginia Power, the Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Prior to the Power, Marco was with the Oklahoma City RedHawks and Williamsport Crosscutters.
“I’m thrilled, first of all, to have the chance to work for the RailRiders, to join a good organization and cover the Yankees,” Marco said. “It’s a great opportunity. Really, I’ve been trying to find that right chance for the last few years.
“I’m excited. I’m nervous. There’s a lot that has to happen in the next weeks and months. The baseball, calling the games, is going to be the easy part.”
Joining the RailRiders provided Marco with the opportunity to come back to his home state of Pennsylvania. Both Marco and his wife, Brienne, are from just outside of Pittsburgh and Marco graduated from Mercyhurst University in 2001.
“I was joking the other day that I’ve spent most of my life on I-79. I’ve gone a lot of north, south, but I haven’t gone a lot of east, west in the last decade,” Marco said. “I’m just excited to make this journey.”
Marco is replacing John Sadak, who stepped down last week after five seasons with the franchise.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre also lost Darren Headrick, who will not be back next season after taking a job with the University of Kentucky as its play-by-play announcer for the baseball and women’s basketball teams back in October. He had been with the RailRiders since 2015.
Marco said that the RailRiders plan to fill Headrick’s position in the near future.
Cave, Rumbelow added to Yankees’ 40-man
RailRiders outfielder Jake Cave and closer Nick Rumbelow have been rewarded for their hard work this season at the Triple-A level.
Both were added to the New York Yankees’ 40-man roster on Monday, and will be protected from December’s Rule 5 Draft.
Cave was a spark to the RailRiders’ lineup since his promotion to Triple-A on June 16. In 72 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the 24-year-old outfielder sported a .324 batting average with 26 doubles, 20 home runs and 56 RBI. He was also named the International League Player of the Month back in July, and took home a Batter of the Week honor during that month as well.
Cave joins Jacoby Ellsbury, Clint Frazier, Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge as the outfielders on the 40-man roster.
After joining the RailRiders on July 3, Rumbelow proved to be one of the team’s top arms down the stretch, including the postseason.
The right-handed reliever appeared in 17 games and posted a 5-1 record and 1.12 ERA to pair with six saves.
Rumbelow turned it up a notch in the postseason. He appeared in four games, pitched 5.1 shutout innings and picked up two saves.
“I feel really comfortable going into the offseason,” Rumbelow said back in Sept. “This year I just wanted to rehab well. The first two months of the season I missed, so it was just cool to be able to even pitch in big games. That was a cool experience for me. I’m walking away this year pretty happy.
“I went out there every night and competed, which is what I want to do. Coach had confidence in me all season long, so I just kind of left it up to (the Yankees).”
