March is finally here – and with it come dreams of spring and warmer days. Whether or not this proves true, you may still want to venture out and try a few of the following events that will be held at the Back Mountain Memorial Library in the next few weeks. All programs are free of charge (with the exception of yoga) and require pre-registration. You may call the library at 570-675-1182 for more information.

Drum Circle with Thomas Odeerheart – The date has been changed and will now be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. A Drum Circle brings together a group of people who share in the experience of learning to drum. Sign up for this fun, informative event and learn about drums from all over the world and the sounds they make. This is a musical event that allows participants to experience the tradition and power of the energy of the drum. No musical ability is needed.

Morning Book Discussion Group will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 19 in the Community Room of the library. This month’s selection is “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls. Anyone may join the Book Discussion Group at any time.

Ongoing classes:

Basic Beginning Yoga Classes are offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Monday. The cost of a class is $10 and participants must sign up for a series of classes which typically run for six weeks. These relaxing classes are a great way to increase your flexibility at a time of year when outdoor exercise is limited.

The Fiction Writing Group is open to all ages from high school up. The group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. on alternate Saturday afternoons (next meeting will be March 21). All are welcome to come and practice writing and reading their work with facilitator Alyssa Waugh. Contact the library for more information.

Individual I-Pad and Basic Computer instructions – call the library to schedule a one hour session with an instructor to answer your questions with your electronic tablet or to offer basic computer/internet/e-mail assistance.

It’s also that time of year for spring cleaning and, as you find some rarely-used items, keep in mind that the library can use these treasures for the upcoming annual auction. The following items are of special interest:

Costume jewelry, sports equipment in good shape, sports memorabilia, collectible sports magazines, tools – old and new, including garden and construction, trains and train accessories, collectible ceramics, statues, glassware, household/kitchen items, dishes, etc.; slightly-used purses and scarves, holiday items (Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc.), children’s games/toys with all parts and pieces, clean, slightly-used stuffed animals

The library’s Nearly Olde committee of the annual auction is also currently seeking volunteers to help clean donated items such as glassware, silverware and ceramics. These items will be displayed in the Nearly Olde Booth at the auction. You may volunteer to help with this endeavor by calling the library or stopping at the front desk.
