Bishop Hoban graduate Kellie Cookus was elected into the University of Rhode Island’s Athletics Hall of Fame over the weekend.

Cookus was a two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and was honored as the top player in the conference in 1997 and 1998. As a freshmen, Cookus helped guide the Rams to an A-10 Championship game appearance when she hit a game-winning double in 1996. She was a freshman.

In just three seasons with the Rams, Cookus finished with 14 school records including single-season and career marks in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits, doubles, triples, RBI, and total bases. Her .437 batting average in 1998 led the league and is the seventh-highest batting average in Atlantic 10 history. Her 25 doubles in 1997 are still not only a Rhode Island record, but the most in a single season in Atlantic 10 history.

Cookus also ranks in Rhody’s top 10 in runs scored, home runs, and stolen bases.

“My teammates are a part of all of my fondest memories,” said Cookus in an URI press release. “Traveling all over the country to so many different places made us so close and we all still remain friends today. I am very grateful for URI for helping to foster those lifelong friendships.”
