The Summer Performing Arts Training Academy at Misericordia University held its inaugural camp in 2014. Last year’s participants receive individualized instruction from coaches in Lemmond Theater in Walsh Hall.

DALLAS — Misericordia University and the Performing Arts Training Academy (PATA) are presenting the “Performing Arts Gala: Spring into Song’’ from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in Lemmond Theater in Walsh Hall.

The program isheld in support of the performing arts and serves as a kick off to a new performing arts season. Blending a mix of song, dance and drama by talented area performers, the spring gala will take the audience on a journey through many styles of performance, including contemporary pop, musical theate, and lyrical song and dance, as well as classical song, slam poetry, monologue and skits.

Highlights of the evening include feature performances from Cari M. Tellis, Ph.D., C.C.C.-S.L.P., the director of the academy who is also a trained vocalist, actor and an associate professor of speech-language pathology at Misericordia University; Lauren Timek, a trained dancer and vocalist; Lonnie Barone, an executive leadership coach, writer and actor; Michael Brown, a trained dancer and creative director at Arts in Movement Academy of Dance; Jeff Kelly, trained vocalist and actor; the Misericordia Players Theater students, and Misericordia students Ryan Burdick (jazz pianist), of Madison, N.Y.; Sean Vitale (drums), of West Pittston; and Katharine Manasco (guitar, singer/songwriter), of Dallas.

Special performances will be conducted by some of Lauren Timek’s dancers from the Academy of Movement in Sinking Spring. Dancers include Ava Rittle, 10, a National True Talent Solo title holder and a lead soloist in ballet productions at the Academy of Movement; Jocelyn Ewing, 12, and Chloe Lu, 13, award-winning competitive dancers as well as a lead soloists in ballet productions at the Academy of Movement, and Emily Imhoff, 11, and Kelsey Imhoff, 11, award-winning competitive dancers as well as demi lead dancers in ballet productions at the Academy of Movement.

Also displaying their talents are PATA performers Jack Barr, 10, a pianist and singer; Sydney Tellis, 12, a singer and actor; Sophia Tellis, 8, a singer and actor; Jacob Thomas, 13, a singer and actor, and others.

Proceeds from the event will support the performing arts, including scholarships for the Summer Performing Arts Training Academy at Misericordia University which is being held July 22 through Aug. 9.
