PLYMOUTH — Council President Bill Dixon addressed residents’ concerns regarding potholes throughout the borough at Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
Dixon said that council is currently in the process of “going over plans with the Street Department” as well as “reaching out to other communities.” Dixon said that he would like to see the borough go back to the hot-patch method of filling the potholes rather than the current method of cold patch. Dixon said that the hot patch is more economical and longer lasting.
Council unanimously approved the appointment of John Rhodes to serve a 180-day probationary period to the position of a full-time Street Department employee with a CDL Class A License at the rate of $12.50 per hour.
Councilman Gary Kochinski reported that senior citizens residing within the borough have been receiving per capita income tax bills in the mail. Kochinski said that any resident over the age of 65 is exempt from paying the tax, and should write “over 65” on the bill in order to avoid paying the charge.
Borough Secretary Holly Spece said that she has been applying for grants on behalf of the borough.
Spece, who took classes in order to gain knowledge of the skills needed to research and apply for grants, spoke about two particular grants. Spece said that she has filed for the Community Recreation Conservation Grant and the Small Community Development Project Grant on behalf of the borough.
She added that the grants are “highly competitive” and that many other municipalities are also contending for them, but even if the borough fails to receive either grant, it will be a “learning process” regarding the procedures and regulations associated with obtaining grants.
The council will hold its next regular meeting at 7 p.m. on April 14.
