The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory effective until 6 p.m. Saturday.

The advisory warns of temperatures expected to hit about 90 degrees and high humidity.

According to the release, the combination of heat and humidity will create apparent temperatures above 100 degrees, especially in urban centers.

Heat-related illnesses are possible with prolonged exposure.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The release advises those who work or spend time outside to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and wear light weight and loose-fitting clothes.
