Carmen Roroha and Nick Reardon both scored three goals with one assist as the visiting Susquehanna University men’s lacrosse team posted a 11-7 victory over King’s College Saturday at Mccarthy Stadium.

With the win Susquehanna improved to 2-1 while King’s slipped to 0-2.

King’s built a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Kyle Wilk and A.J. Bungert. But Susquehanna outscored the Monarchs 6-1 in the second period, led by two scores from Reardon, to take a 6-3 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, King’s used goals from Cam trick and Wilk to cut the lead to 7-5 entering the final frame. But Susquehanna countered with one goal each from Roroha, Phil Lapone, and Reardon to push the score to 10-5 with 6:59 left in the contest.

Susquehanna outshot King’s 43-25 while the Monarchs held a 32-21 advantage in ground balls. King’s committed 19 turnovers compared to 14 for Susquehanna while the Monarchs committed 11 penalties with the Crusaders finishing with six.

TRACK AND FIELD

MU women finish first

Led by four individual champions, the Misericordia University women’s track & field captured its first MAC Indoor Championship, Saturday at Lehigh University.

Bianca Bolton won the 3,000 meter and 5,000-meter runs while Amy Viti broke her own MAC championships record to win the 400-meter dash. Sarah Ostroski won the long jump and Sarah Wigg took the weight throw with a MAC championships record.

Katie Fairchild, Kelsey O’Donnell, Melanie Fray and Kelty Fairchild won the 4×400 relay the Fairchilds and Fry joined Viti to set a MAC championships record to win the 4×400.

Kelty Fairchild was second at 400m and Viti was second at 800m. Georgia Cleary set a school record while finishing second in the pentathlon. Chelsea Hall was second in the shot put with a school record and Bethany Killmon qualified for the ECAC’s with a runner-up finish in the mile.

MU’s Chris Wadas was named MAC Coach of the Year.

MU men finish 4th

The Misericordia University men’s track & field finished fourth for its best finish ever at the MAC Indoor Championships, Saturday at Lehigh University.

Jarrett Higley, Carl Daubert, Mike Harth and Andrew Nelson set a school record to win the 4×400 relay and Sean Meade, Tyler Lamberson, Harth and Nelson won the 4×200 relay. Robert Poepperling was second in the pole vault with a school record and Nelson and Harth were second in the 200 meter and 400 meter, respectively.

Matt Quirk, Daubert, Higley and Eric Deignan finished second in the Distance Medley Relay and Mikael Hause, Deignan, Quirk and Nick Weron finished third in the 4×800 relay.

BASEBALL

Wilkes sweeps doubleheader

Wilkes University opened its 2015 campaign with a pair of wins beating host Paine College 8-4 and 5-3 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Lions Field.

In game one, Dan Pisanchyn put Wilkes up early in the top of the second hitting an RBI single scoring Stephen Ruch who walked to start the inning.

After Paine tied the game in the bottom of the third on a fielder’s choice, the Colonel bats exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth. Ryan Herbst highlighted the scoring with a two-run triple while Nick Preston and Matthew Reese added RBI singles in the frame.

Quinn Kelly, Chris Nixon and Jeff Roedell combined to throw a three-hitter for the Colonels. Nixon picked up the win going 1.2 innings allowing one hits and two earned runs. Kelly struck out a game-high five batters in three innings of work.
