KINGSTON — The Wyoming Valley Lady Striders will conduct a Couch to 5K program beginning April 16.

The program lasts for eight weeks and will meet three times a week at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays (Kingston levee) and Thursdays (Wyoming levee) and at 9 a.m. on Saturdays (Kirby Park).

Couch to 5K is a beginners program that combines walking and jogging. The idea is to transform the participants from couch potatoes to runners, preparing them to run a 5K (or 3.1 miles) and on a regular basis in just two months.

Registration will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 in the levee parking lot on the corner of Church Street and Rutter Avenue. Registration fee is $25. Participants must also join the Wyoming Valley Striders. The annual fee to be a Strider is $5 which also affords discounts at several local running stores.

Teh group’s goal race will be the “Be Prepared To Run Flag Day 5k” scheduled for June 13 in Wilkes-Barre.
