NEW YORK — Tony Carr scored 25 points and hit two 3-pointers and set up another in the final minutes as Penn State made a late rush to hold off Northwestern 65-57 in the second round of the Big Ten Conference Tournament on Thursday night.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the seventh-seeded Nittany Lions (20-12) and set up a quarterfinal game on Friday against No. 13 and second-seeded Ohio State at Madison Square Garden.

Carr hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 4:06 to play to give Penn State a 55-54 lead and ignite a game-closing 13-2 run. He later set up a 3-pointer by Josh Reaves that expanded the lead to 58-54 with 3:03 to go and he followed with his sixth 3-pointer a minute later for a seven-point lead.

Reaves finished with 15 points and Shep Garner had 12.

Wisconsin 59, Maryland 54

NEW YORK — Brevin Pritzl broke a tie with a foul-line jumper with 28 seconds left and Khalil Iverson secured the win with a steal in the waning seconds, leading Wisconsin past Maryland in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Brad Davison and Iverson each made two free throws in the final nine seconds, and the ninth-seeded Badgers (15-17) advanced to the quarterfinals against top-seeded Michigan on Friday at Madison Square Garden.

No. 15 Michigan 77, Iowa 71, OT

NEW YORK — Duncan Robinson made Michigan’s only field goal in overtime, a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:15 left, and the 15th-ranked Wolverines survived foul trouble and poor shooting to advance to the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.

The fifth-seeded Wolverines (25-7) face fourth-seeded Nebraska on Friday at Madison Square Garden.

Michigan was 3 for 19 from 3-point range and Robinson made all of them. His OT 3 put Michigan up 72-70, and the Wolverines made just enough free throws to hold off the Hawkeyes (14-19).

ATLANTIC SUN TOURNAMENT

Florida Gulf Coast 95, North Florida 72

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Brandon Goodwin had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists on Thursday night and top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast beat No. 5 seed North Florida in the semifinals.

The Eagles (23-10) will face the winner of Jacksonville and Lipscomb for the championship on Sunday.

FGCU pulled away with a 17-4 run to lead 74-53 just before the midpoint of the second half. North Florida (14-19) got no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT

Radford 59, Longwood 53

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Donald Hicks hit the tie-breaking 3-pointer with 34 seconds left, Ed Polite Jr. had a huge blocked shot with 14.6 to go and second-seeded Radford edged 10th-seeded Longwood in the quarterfinals.

Longwood came out of a timeout with a minute left to tie the game at 53 on a Damarion Geter dunk. Hicks, a sophomore, answered from the right wing with his fifth 3-pointer on six attempts. B.K. Ashe missed a 3-pointer that Geter grabbed but his putback attempt was blocked from behind by Polite. Carlik Jones grabbed the loose ball and was fouled with 11.3 seconds to go.

Winthrop 72, Gardner-Webb 68

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Anders Broman scored all 15 of his points in the second half, Adam Pickett matched him with 15 and defending Big South Tournament champion Winthrop beat Gardner-Webb 72-68 on Thursday in a quarterfinal matchup.

After Gardner-Webb twice pulled within three points, Broman and brother Bjorn Broman combined to make four straight free throws for two-possession leads, the last at 70-65. Liam O’Reilly hit a contested off-balance 3-pointer with 4.1 to go but Bjorn Broman added two more at the stripe.

UNC Asheville 71, Charleston Southern 66

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Ahmad Thomas and MaCio Teague scored 17 points each and Thomas lofted a short jumper after his defender fell backward and UNC Asheville went down to its last possession before holding off Charleston Southern 71-66 in the quarterfinals.

UNC Asheville (21-11), the regular-season conference champion and top seed in the tournament, will meet the winner of No. 4 Liberty-No. 5 Campbell in a semifinal on Friday.

MAAC TOURNAMENT

Quinnipiac 67, Siena 58

ALBANY, N.Y. — Rich Kelly scored 18 points, Jacob Rigoni had 17 and No. 7 Quinnipiac used a 24-point first half lead to earn a 67-58 win over No. 10 Siena in a first-round game in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.

Quinnipiac (11-20) advances to face No. 2 seed Canisius Friday in a quarterfinal-round game.

The Saints (8-24) stormed back in the second half, but could get no closer than an eight-point deficit, 63-55 with 1:29 left.

Saint Peter’s 60, Monmouth 58

ALBANY, N.Y. — Nick Griffin made four late 3-pointers, including the game-winner with five seconds left, and No. 9 seed Saint Peter’s beat eighth-seeded Monmouth in the first round.

Saint Peter’s (13-17) will play top-seeded Rider in a Friday quarterfinal.

The Peacocks trailed by eight with 3:18 to go. Griffin made three 3-pointers and Quinn Taylor converted a 3-point play during a 12-3 run and Saint Peter’s led 57-56 with 1:05 left. Zac Tillman’s layup put the Hawks ahead before Griffin hit the game-winner. Taylor blocked Ray Salnave’s jump shot to end it.

MVC TOURNAMENT

Northern Iowa 60, Evansville 50

ST. LOUIS — Wyatt Lohaus scored 15 points, Hunter Rhodes added 14, and No. 8 seed Northern Iowa never trailed in beating No. 9 seed Evansville in the opening round of the 2018 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Klint Carlson scored nine points with 10 rebounds and Bennett Koch scored eight points with 11 boards as the Panthers (16-15), ranked fourth in the nation in scoring defense (62.9 ppg), held MVC leading scorer Ryan Taylor to two points on 1-of-13 shooting.

Northern Iowa advances to face top seed Loyola-Chicago (25-5) on Friday.

PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

Bucknell 83, Loyola (MD) 78

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Zach Thomas notched his 14th double-double of the season with 27 points and 11 rebounds and top-seeded Bucknell survived upset-minded No. 8 seed Loyola (MD) in the quarterfinals.

The Bison (23-9) move on to a semifinal matchup against No. 5 seed Boston University.

Andrew Kostecka buried a 3-pointer with 4:30 elapsed in the second half to pull the Greyhounds within 46-44. Thomas scored five straight to give the Bison some breathing room. Kimbal Mackenzie sank four free throws and Stephen Brown and Thomas each made two in the final 35 seconds to wrap up the win.

Boston University 88, Lehigh 82

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Max Mahoney scored 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting and No. 5 seed Boston University defeated fourth seed Lehigh 88-82 on Thursday night in a quarterfinal matchup in the Patriot League Tournament.

Lehigh entered the tournament with an eight-game winning streak and hadn’t lost since Jan. 27 when Navy beat the Mountain Hawks 77-75.

Pat Andree’s basket 20 seconds in marked Lehigh’s only lead before Mahoney got Boston U (15-15) started with a layup and a dunk and the Terriers stayed in front the rest of the way.

Colgate 76, Lafayette 54

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Sean O’Brien scored 18 on 7-of-11 shooting and Will Rayman added 16 points and 12 rebounds to power second-seeded Colgate to a victory over No. 7 seed Lafayette.

The win sends Colgate (18-12) into Sunday’s semifinals against Holy Cross (12-18). Jordan Burns chipped in with 12 points and four assists for the Raiders, while Dana Batt contributed 11 points and seven boards. Rayman’s double-double was his fourth of the season.

Holy Cross 81, Navy 65

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Jehyve Floyd scored 20 points and No. 6 seed Holy Cross shot 74 percent in the second half to beat third-seeded Navy 81-65 in the quarterfinals.

Floyd was 8 of 9 from the floor and had three assists, two blocks and a steal. Austin Butler added 18 points for the Crusaders, who shot 25 of 57 (68 percent) overall and made 25 of their 32 free throws. Floyd and Butler combined for 21 second-half points.

Holy Cross opened the second half on a 23-8 run for a 55-39 lead with 8:32 to play and cruised from there.

OVC TOURNAMENT

Jacksonville State 73, Tennessee Tech 70

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Marlon Hunter and Jamall Gregory scored 18 points apiece and Malcolm Drumwright sank 1 of 2 free throws with 2 seconds left to help No. 4 seed Jacksonville State hold off fifth-seeded Tennessee Tech in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

The win sends the Gamecocks (21-11) to a semifinal game against No. 1 seed Murray State (24-5) on Friday.
